Any truth to resetting ECU?

have heard varying opinions on the benefits of resetting the ECU after an exhaust mod. some say the car will relearn quickly by itself after 50 miles or so...like always, hard to distinguish truth from myth on forums.

any opinions / facts (preferred :-))

also seen this referrred to as TBA (throttle body adaptation)?

something along the lines of:

Press the power button once, push the accelerator for 30 seconds, push the power button again, then release the accelerator, wait 2minutes then power up the car

anyone?
