I want to buy an M4 but I have a few issues with it..
First of all let me start by saying that I think it performs great, and is an awesome car overall. But there are a few things that have prevented me from seriously thinkin about buying one.
1. It looks too much like a a regular 3/4 series with an M sport kit. At least it does so in pictures and videos. People who have seen both cars in real life, could you confirm or dispute this for me? 2. Why not just buy a 335i and tune it? Yeah I know that the chassis is better and it's lighter etc. but I don't track so without the s65 engine that set the m3 apart from the 335i in the past what reason is there for a person with avg driving skills to buy one? 3. it sounds terrible. Idle sounds like a diesel. Honestly so far the c63 AMG is looking like the better deal. Except that I hate it's looks. Is the RS5 a worthy contender? |

No one here is going to talk you into the car. You either like of or not. It's ok not to. Your points are valid except for the tuned 335i point. That's just ridiculous. You'd be missing the suspension, steering, seats, DCT, Rear diff, etc. it's not even close.

A bit surprising to hear this from you. I thought you were a big fan? I do think the M4 looks like a 4 series depending on the color or rather the 4 series with M sport looks too much like the M4. The M3 looks totally different.
I have two questions. 1) is having 4 seats a requirement? If so then it'll be tough to find anything better. If you don't need 4 seats then there are plenty of contenders 2) it doesn't really seem like the performance benefits of the M mean much to you. Are you buying a M simply because of the brand name and the perceived eliteness that comes with it? Because otherwise a 3 or 4 series would serve your purpose just fine. No offense meant by that by the way. |

If the C63 AMG or RS5 appeal to you more then you should buy one of them. It is a personal choice that only you can make. Enjoy whatever you choose.

I haven't driven an M4 yet ( my dealership hasn't gotten one yet) so I pardon me if I'm wrong in thinking that in the real world a 335i with an aftermarket exhaust and tune will keep up with an m4 |

1) 4 seats would be nice, not a requirement right now though. But for future purposes. 2) probably not, it's just that I've always wanted an M car. So I guess it is partly the brand name. I have a 428i but my financial situation is about to change quite significantly , this id finally be able to afford one. But they are barking expensive here in Switzerland. I'm jealous of you Americans who paid less for their m4 than I did for my 4 series. |

just youtube some of M4 promo vids.. that should at least get you started on differences between 435 n m4. its pretty obvious that you are not a huge car enthusiast and maybe looking for a nice car that has some punch. if thats the case f8x might not be best value for you. you want a fast cruiser, i would take rs5. dont get c63.. the new 2016 model is around the corner. |

I climbed out of a 435 and into an M4 just after the un4gettable event at my dealer. No comparison. The M4 was visually a more stunning car on the inside. It felt more solid and comfortable as well.
Sure, you could tune a 335 to be just as fast. You could tune a lot of cars to be just as fast. They wouldn't be the same. In the end, it's your personal preference. If it doesn't do it for you, don't spend the money on it. |

I totally disagree. People say that in this forum all the time, but to my eye, there is no more difference between an M3 and a 335i M Sport than there is between a 435i M Sport and an M4.

Pictures don't do the M4 justice. After seing one in person, I ordered mine and will be doing a PCD on 09/09/14. It just looks much better in person, no other way to describe it.

Great graphics! From that angle I agree with you, but still support my original opinion. But I think your garaphics prove that the M3/M4 look significantly different from their 3/4 series bretheran, unlike what the OP stated.

And for me, the M4 looking similar to the regular 4 series is what draws me into it, I see that as a benefit. Quote:
However, I really doubt that you will enjoy the extra benefits/features/capabilities an M4 has if you just going to drive on the street. You cannot even exploit the performance potential of 435 on the street, so everything else is not very meaningful IMHO. I personally think if you already have a 428, why would you change it? I have this type of conversations with clients and friends about Porsche a lot. I tell them if they want to just experience Porsche and not go wild from time to time, a base Cayman or Boxster will meet their needs. I suspect it is the same with BMW. If you want more sporty character and a change out of BMW, then do consider a Boxster or Cayman IMO. |

None of these German performance specials look different enough for non-enthusiasts to distinguish. If you're buying an M, RS, or AMG car to impress random people, you're wasting your money. Your 4-series will do that job just fine.

Since you already have a 428, have it painted AY and put an M4 badge on it. Most people will never know the difference.

If the mountains of reviews, user blogs and videos that have been amassed about this car won't persuade you, then asking for opinions from random people on the internet won't either.
Instead, find away to test drive it and let the car do the talking. Chances are that you'll be left thinking how ridiculous these questions are. But, fwiw: 1. No it doesn't. 2. No you can't. And 3. The exhaust sounds fantastic. |
