Grassroots Ultimate Track Car Challenge

So, the annual Challenge was again held at VIR about two weeks ago, and apparently BMW entered the M4 with Donnie Isley (performance school instructor), and there were few other BMW entries, including a 1M from RRT Racing - I hope this is not a repost, here are the official results.

Making few assumptions... The newly improved VIR is about 2 secs faster than before, the M4 was stock including tires. If all that is true, than the time is quite impressive, I think about 3.5 secs faster than E9X M3, about 3-4 secs slower than 997.2 GT3.

Super impressive for a stock M4. Wow at how, relatively speaking, close it was to the 997 gt3

I actually would have expected a little better especially if the new configuration of the track is 2 secs faster.

I by no means consider myself to be an expert driver or anything ... not anywhere near where Donnie or the other BMW PC guys would be, but I ran a 2:13 and some change in my old E90 M3 that was mostly stock, except coil overs and brakes on the full VIR course a couple years ago.

Leh Keen ran 2:08 ish in his E92 M3 that was again pretty stock. Leh is an amazing talent and was driving balls to the wall, but Donnie should be pretty good as well so I would have expected something in the 2:07 range at least all things considered. My guess is Donnie wasn't letting it all hang out like he could have.

F82>E92
Current track>old track

Take my 2:13 and subtract 2 secs for the track = 2:11
Then subtract 2 secs for the F82 = 2:09

A professional driver should be doing better than me for sure.

Its really hard to calulate anything from standard deduct 2 here, set bench here etc.

Leh's car was pretty well dialed in One Lap prep he had in mind to run. If memory serves me, it had KW V3s, good bit camber up front, big brake kit with fat MPS indeed.

Add track conditions to the mix That said, a stock M3 in single digit it fairly quick. Donnie is no slouch! I have run against him at Road Atlanta when he was driving the M6 and NO he does not have the tendency to leave anything on the table

I get that coilovers and track brakes are considered easy/light modifications, but those are significant contributors to track times compared to a stock suspension and day-to-day braking. That being said, the M4 was rocking CCBs which should be considered track brakes for all intents and purposes since supposedly they won't fade on you.

Really wish they'd post a video with telemetry.

Show it off a bit right?

Anyone know what it hit on the back straight (and where he braked)?
