Why are the M Performance Brakes so expensive?
According to the BMW M Performance site, the M Performance Brakes are $2,800.
http://www.shopbmwusa.com/PRODUCT/44...E-BRAKE-SYSTEM Aren't they pretty similar to the M Sport Brakes that come with the Track Handling Package? (I thought that the only difference was that the M Performance Brakes are "drilled and grooved" while the M Sport Brakes are not.) If they are similar, the price for the M Performance Brakes seems pretty outrageous. They cost more than the entire Track Handling Package! And when the M Sport Brakes were a stand-alone option in 2014 on the M Sport 228i, they were only $650. Am I missing something that justifies their cost? Having red, yellow, or orange brake calipers instead of blue would be cool, but not $2,800 cool. |

well it's cause the M Sport Brakes is an add-on option.... meaning you don't get to keep the stock brakes....
so it's the price of the stock brakes + $650 if you were to buy them separately... Ya the M perf brakes are basically same as M Sport just dimpled and slotted not drilled rotors... also the material of the rotors might not be the same and might be a little bit larger but not 100% sure |

I think you're right about them being a bit larger.
The Car & Driver review of the M235i says that the front brakes are 13.4 inches. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t-drive-review That's roughly 340mm. The M Performance brakes are 370mm. So it seems like the M Performance brakes do have more going for them than just the "drilled and grooved" discs. $2,800 still seems like a lot, though. But I guess you have to pay to play... |

Thats why its a no brainer to get msport breaks
And for those saying they cant feel the difference of the fixed 4pot-2pot Brembo vs the regular bmw floating brakes are just nuts

The problem with the M Sport brakes is that you can only get them as part of the Track Handling Package now, and I don't really want the Adaptive M Suspension (I'd much rather have the M Performance Suspension).
At least now I know that, if I get the M Performance Suspension and the M Performance brakes, I'm getting brake discs that are even bigger than the M Sport discs. |

Chris Harris from /Drive claims they aren't that big of a difference from the regular M Sport brakes (original M235i brakes).
I'll be waiting for a better solution to come on the market (something like Dinan's kit, only cheaper). |

Yeah, I saw that. I was very disappointed to hear that he was getting quite a bit of fade on the M Performance brakes. For what those things cost, they should be track-ready.
