Lease deal broadened!
I know there has been a ton of confusion about the special lease offer (the 7% increase in the residual) that first surfaced last Friday.
Now, courtesy of my terrific CA, I can share with you the great news that BMW has modified the program by making it so every dealer can do this for an unlimited number of customers. Indeed, dealers are now REQUIRED to offer this deal to ALL customers (even P1's). The only restrictions as far as I can tell are: 1. Only applies to 36 month deals (lease, OC, and OC Flex) 2. Deal must be contracted between 8/6 and 9/2 If your dealer continues to feign ignorance about this, tell him/her to select the program "BMW i3 Limited Enhanced 36 Month Lease Aug14" in InfoBahn Go get 'em! |

Getting invoice plus 2000 innovations rebate. Is that about as good as it gets?

Are they really having to sell these things $2,000 under invoice to move units? And they raised the residual 7%. Confirms some earlier speculation they are having trouble moving units in the US.

I don't know ANYONE, ANYWHERE who has bought an i3 at $2,000 below invoice. That said, yes, you can now get a very nice discount off of MSRP from the dealer, plus on top of that you can currently get (at least in October, who knows what will happen in November) from BMW NA a credit of $2,000 for a BEV or $1,000 for a REX.

Innovation credit (2k), rates and residuals are all the same for Nov as they were in Oct.

My deal: $2,800 off from the dealer, $2,000 Innovation Credit, $2,500 rebate from Texas when I register the car, and $7,500 credit from Uncle Sam in Spring 2015. So, I will "pay" just over $40k for the i3 as I have equipped it and then receive $10k back from the taxpayers of Texas and the USA.
Thus, actual i3 cost will be about $31k, which includes the Level 2 charger installed in my garage. Now, I know I can buy a leaf much cheaper or some other e car now, but I really like the look of the i3 and especially the interior with taller ride height. It will be my primary commuter as I work 10 miles from my house and for trips we have a 2014 BMW 535d xdrive. To me, $31k for this car is a good deal and I would be surprised if they get much cheaper. |

$45.5k as built: BEV, Giga, HK, DC only. I lack nothing as this car is well equipped without the other costly and unnecessary options (IMHO). Now, minus $2,800 from dealer, $2k from BMWNA, $2.5k Texas rebate, and $7.5k Fed credit. That makes the car a deal to me.
As equipped, Astro has: Nav, IDrive, HK, Satellite Radio, SOS, Cruise, Homelink, Rear Parking Sensors, Auto Wipers, Security System, etc. The list goes on and on . . . So, for me, ordering the other packages was wasteful. The bigger Nav screen would have been nice but not at the price. Plus, I do not need the adaptive cruise control for around town driving. |

When originally implemented, the Federal tax credit on EV's was specified to be limited to a certain number of vehicles or total credit amount, then it was to be phased out. I have not been following that to see if it has been amended.
For most people buying an i3 it won't be a problem, but your tax bill for the year you buy the i3 must be at least $7.5K, or you'll lose part of that credit - you cannot carry over any of it from one year to the next, and if your federal tax bill is not $7.5K, you can only claim up to what you have paid. NH doesn't have a local tax credit for an EV (no state income tax!), so I'm not sure how Texas, since they don't either, would handle that. It may just be a rebate, which would be income for the next year on your federal tax bill, so you will not be seeing the total amount. 90% of the states do have income taxes, so a state tax credit could work...again, though, only if you actually owe them at least the amount of that credit. |
