okay who can help me in SoCal with the mods needed to make this car last...

I've read many of the posts and seen the block off plates etc...but Im still a little fuzzy on the options - can someone please simply help me understand the couple steps that I can take to avoid some of the potential problems that have been discussed here - my car is at 50,400 flawless to date and I want to keep it that way / What parts should I order? And is there a shop in SoCal that can help / I will add that I do have mechanical breakdown through Geiko to 100k so I wouldnt want to do anything to put that at risk - also being in SoCal I know some of the warranties from BMW are extended - so maybe I shouldnt be concerned??

TIA
Chris

Ok

1. DPF delete and install new Downpipe
2. code out DPF/EGR/SCR
3. CBU there is an SIB
4. Plug EGR
5. and last but not least GOOD LUCK you live in the NAZI state of california where all this emissions things started. NO SHOP will be willing to do it UNLESS you sign a Disclosure Letter stating car is going to be used for racing, on the other hand correct me if im wrong anyone from California or whomever here in the forum. Gracias

neither of those are an option in an OBD check state at this point.

Your only real options so far, assuming you arent going to register your car out of state, are EGR block off, and cleaning if you want or need that.

I would block the EGR and run meth. That is all you pretty much will have to do. Before your inspection, reverse the EGR block, reset all the codes, drive 500 miles to have your monitors ready, go for your inspection, then put the EGR block back in.

thats why the spider boot is very appealing to me. I can delete everything, then put the hardware back and reload factory tune for smog like the 335i guys get to.

Personally, I would think twice about putting all the hardware back. It's either in or out. EGR blocks are easy, but DPF is a whole another story. Thanks, but no thanks.

you dont understand how CA smog works. they have a new enhanced CAN system reader, we really have no choice if you want performance. every 2 years is not bad for install/uninstall, especially when you have access to a full on shop to work in.

The only thing not understood is that you apparently have access to a shop to work on your car.

Plenty of us from CA... It's not worth it for me. I'm not dying for horsepower... I pretend the DPF isn't there and I enjoy what it's got with JBD and meth... Which is plenty.

I am doing EGR block/replace every two years, and I run methanol which obviously I will remove prior to smog, but removing and reinstalling the DPF every two years is a bit much...to me. Other opinions may differ and certainly if its worth it to you then you should do it.

You can get a flash, JBD, and run meth without having a DPF removal and if you run that stacked you can easily be running 12.5s in the 1/4 mile. I ran 12.8 with just meth and JBD. It all depends on just how much performance you want/need and whether its worth the pain

Once you have done it once it is easier. If you have a lift, shop full of tools, a few buddies to lend a hand and really wish to have a 500lb/ft monster, then by all means go for it.

Check out the FAQ:diesel vehicles in the smog check program. It says that the OBD-ii check is the samenas gas but it can't do it on the newer CAN interface. So we may be in the clear, that was in 09 but I can't find anything newer on their website

The problem as far as anyone that has done the deletes has reported is that the obd monitors never set to ready if those are coded out. If the monitors are not ready, its an automatic failure.
