F8X M3/M4 M Performance Rear Diffuser DIY

The BMW Performance division continues to expand their offerings all the while keying into the desires of BMW enthusiasts around the world. The F8X M3/M4 Performance parts are a more aggressive option created by the designers at BMW ///M. The aero options from the Performance division , design by BMW ///M provide a more sporty and aggressive look all the while maintaining or accenting the factory lines. The kit includes carbon fiber front splitters, trunk spoiler, rear diffuser, and of course mirror covers. All BMW Performance carbon parts are 2x2 weave.

Please contact an IND representative with further questions.

Step 1:
The OEM diffuser is secured by 2 screws and multiple clips on the upper partition. There are two screws in the center of the diffuser that must be removed, but are not important to the factory diffuser install. Using the 8mm socket remove all 4 screws

Step 2:
With the screws removed simply pull the diffuser from the bumper. The top clips do not require much pressure so no body tools are required.

Step 3:
With the diffuser removed it is now time for install of the M Performance carbon fiber diffuser. This piece utilizes all 4 8mm screws and the existing body clips. Step 1 of the installation is to lineup the clips and carefully press into place.

Step 4:
Now that the diffuser is loosely secured by the mounting tabs simply tighten the four 8mm screws.

Yeah, I have to do it after wheels, coils and other minor mods.

Once you figure in the diffuser and the other bits, you're in the 2k range just for some CF pieces. I'm sure some other parts will come out soon, which is probably the only benefit of being stuck in Korea right now.

Great pics, IND. Do you have any more of the underside of the car you'd be willing to share? It's a work of art under there from what I can remember and your camera work looks to be great.

A few people have said once the CF diffuser is installed, you can no longer kick under the car to open the trunk.

Does the "kick-motion-to-open trunk" comfort access still work on your car after you installed the diffuser? Thanks.

No it is not functional. Sensors are obstructed.

That is correct, the kick-motion will no longer open the trunk.

Resurrecting an old thread...

I remember a post in another thread that the kick-motion sensor can be relocated, allowing it to work with this diffuser. Has anyone done this or have a DIY or pictures showing how this is done?

I just went out and stuck my phone camera under the bumper and took a picture that looks pretty much like yours.

I just installed my diffuser last week and I remember that the heat shield is kind of loose fitting. After I removed the stock piece, it seemed like the heat shield ended up on the wrong side of the plastic/nylon piece, which has the mounting nut, and I had to move it so it was between the plastic piece and the tab of the diffuser.

Per the installation instructions:

Ensure that the screws (1) are screwed first through carbon rear diffuser AA and then through the heat shield into the plastic part
