Crank pulley vs Crank sprocket pic
I'm trying to remove my my pulley only and I'm being told that i will have to re-time the engine. BMWMD cleared it for me already but I thought I wld post this and try and help . Not sure if that's what you call that sprocket either so don't criticize....lol. This might be the N55 but you get the idea

Correct. If you remove the 10mm or 13mm bolts and remove the pulley itself the timing isn't touched. If you remove the large 26mm? bolt in the centre then whole sprocket comes out and the engine requires re-timing.
