Can you access BMW Apps?

I'm looking into ConnectedDrive section in the main iDrive menu but BMW Apps is not there.

This is supposed to be standard equipment on F8x.

(I do not have option 6NS, Enhanced smartphone integration.)

Can anyone access it?

I think I got it -- BMW ConnectedDrive technology is part of BMW Assist, which requires a contract and an activation, that has not been done yet on my car.

Yes. Same sort of configuration as you no exec pack and no enhanced BT and I just got all of this to work. I think your dealer has to fax a form called BMW Assist Subscriber Contract Agreement with your customer information. There should be a password. You then call 888.333.6118.

Thanks. I'm doing European Delivery and I'm still in EU so maybe that's why BMW Assist has not been submitted yet.

Anybody know if this is possible to do prior to ED so you have it available in Europe?

I will find out soon and will report back.

But I think even if the CA submits my paperwork, it won't work because BMW NA won't be able to establish a connection with the vehicle... some Canadian ED guideline mentioned that the communication frequencies are different for US market. BMW Assist is a cellular based service which BMW subsidizes with carriers in the respective market/region.

Ah, good thinking, you're probably right - thanks for looking into it!

So I tried to set it up. My CA has activated my contract but to activate the features in the car, the SOS button needs to be pressed to add the vehicle to BMW Assist user account. I have done this in US with success on my previous BMWs.

For the M4 in Europe, the SOS button doesn't work however. It doesn't do anything, it's dead no matter how long I hold the button depressed.

I called 1-800 BMW Assist line and they confirmed I have to do the "acquaintance" call via the SOS button.

I suppose the SOS button/car overall will be programmed upon redelivery in US.

Until then, no ConnectedDrive services and no BMW Apps -- bummer!
