Two iPhone connections?
It is my understanding that the Bluetooth in a 2013 with the tech package would allow two concurrent phone connections with either phone being able to receive calls but only the primary being able to place calls. While driving with my wife today she got a call on her iPhone 4s but it did not come through the Bluetooth. When I checked the Bluetooth connections it showed my iPhone 5s was connected but showed hers as paired.
What am I missing or doing wrong? Thanks.

From my experience I can only used the connected phone can have bluetooth usage not the phone paired/both. If you want to use the phone paired, you have to switch connections in your bluetooth to which phone you want connected to use.

I have a MY12, and able to have 2 phones connected at the same time without a problem.
In the Bluetooth setting of 1 of the phones, you have to set it up as Alternate (not sure of the name, but it's the 2nd one in the list). The 1st and 2nd options are exclusive, so a specific phone can either be a primary or an alternate. 3rd option being Bluetooth Audio (on my car anyway). Let me know if you have the same thing on your car.

You can receive calls from either phone and you can initiate a call from the alternate phone and the audio will be routed through the car. This alternate phone feature is only available if you have Enhanced Bluetooth. |

Matt (Call from personal phone) Matt (Call from work phone) Mike (Call from work phone) Mitch (Call from personal phone) etc... I realize this doesn't help the OP because he has CIC, but the behavior is different, depending on what Nav you have. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/att...6&d=1346949840 |

It appears I don't have enhanced Bluetooth. Sure thought I did but I don't get the additional telephone option on the configure phone screen. Anyone know the option code for enhanced Bluetooth?
Thanks.

Well you learn something every day. This does indeed work. On my 2014 NBT, the phone setup looks slightly different. You can assign it to Telephone 1 or Telephone 2. And wouldn't you know it, I was on phone during the drive to work and received a call on the other one. It popped up on the HUD....very cool.
I didn't pick it up. What would have happened to the call I was already on? It goes on hold I assume? Is there a way to switch back and forth between them? Haven't seen what SamS posted yet, though. I took a quick look at the contact list for one phone. Jogged the controller to the right and saw that I could switch contacts to the other phone. Will need to play around with this more. Enhanced BT just got a whole lot better. |

Well I dug deeper and I think the code for BMW Assist with enhanced Bluetooth is 6NL which I have. The question now is why can't I configure my wife's phone as an additional telephone? Maybe the iPhone 4s doesn't support this and I have to wait until her next upgrade in December.

Last week, I had an IPhone 4 as a loaner (waiting for my S5), and it did work.

I had it working between a 4S and an Android Nexus 5. I could easily verify it works between various iPhones if you want.
Phone 1 was the Android, Phone 2 was the 4S |

Phone 1 was the Android, Phone 2 was the 4S >>>>>>>>>>>> If you can just confirm that the iPhone 4s functioned as an "Additional telephone" and was able to receive calls while the primary phone was connected I would really appreciate it. I'm not sure where I'll go from there but will at least be confident that it should work. Thanks!

Sure, I can already state that that works for me. I had that scenario just this morning. iPhone 4S was the second phone. I was talking on the first and a call came in on the 4S. I got a popup on the HUD that asked if I wanted to accept or deny the call. I can try actually picking up the call later. I have a 5S too and can try 5S/4S scenario.

SOLVED!!! I just fiddled with my iDrive again. It turns out you have to configure Bluetooth first to enable advanced functions such as additional telephone and office. One you check off the additional telephone function then it shows up on the pick list when you try to configure a specific phone. I am assuming that even if my wife's phone is set up as an additional telephone when she is in the car alone she will be able to send and receive from her phone.
Thanks to everyone who weighed in on this.

Yep I tried a 5s primary and a 4s secondary. Called both at the same time and both calls come in.
Here's how it worked for me: - called primary phone and I picked it up with iDrive - called secondary phone and the option to answer pops up on HUD and main screen. I pick it up. - first call goes on hold - I was NOT able to swap back and forth between the two calls though. It stayed on the second call no matter what I did. - I hung up the second call. Screen then returned to the first call, but still on hold. - I had to push the pickup button to take the first call off hold. This operation isn't bad. It's like a second call interrupts and you can't go back until it's done. But has anyone managed to keep two calls active and swap back and forth? |

As far as I know, I have iDrive 4 on my 2016 4 series, as far as I know I have Enhanced Bluetooth (I can connect connect multiple devices (just, one as telephone, one as bluetooth audio, currently), I get album artwork via BT if using iPhone (not Android)), I can connect my iPhone via cable and spotify App shows up. It is entirely possible I do not have everything I need for this to work, but every thread says "go to Configure Bluetooth" and I tear my hair out as I don't even have that option... Thanks in advance, happy to find version numbers etc if needed to help. |
