Paint protection film front
Has anyone considered having the front if the car done with clear paint protection film?
I have seen one if the USA tuners did the front end but never seen it done in UK? |

I had my Alpina B3 Bi Turbo covered with stone protection film (with a full front kit 5 years ago and still looking good) and will be having my M4 protected as well. I thoroughly recommend Paintshield at Peterborough (http://www.paintshield.co.uk/) they may well be the best in the country, they have an excellent portfolio of cars they have done.
The stone chip film is wrapped over the edge so in most locations so there is no visible edge. The film covers completely the original panel in a single piece so not visible edges. The film is cut to a template so no knives/scalpel used to trim the film when its on the car. Last edited by Estoril Sport; 08-29-2014 at 08:33 AM.. |

I've heard of Venture-shield and almost got it on my 3-series. I read a couple of reviews that said insects can somehow get trapped under it and are impossible to remove.
In the end I guess stone chips are going to happen, if not on the nose then elsewhere.

Paintshield applied stone ship protection film on my B3 BiTurbo for a full frontal treatment whole bonnet, bumper, wings, mirrors + sills protection, that was 5 years ago. This the car with the film on just last month! still looking brilliant. I 100% recommend PaintShield. The film is also wrapped around the edges.

Paintsheld are superb but the fact that their product has edges means you get a lot of grime on those edges, I'm looking at an edgeless install for the M4 because of this. Really shows up on white also. But already my M4 bumper needs a respray before i get it done, M5 I got done the same week I picked the car up. and its spotless because of the film. Definitely worth it. Neil

Unless there is a major limitation with the M4 you can ask for the film to be wrapped around the leading edges. On the bonnet there is just one edge not wrapped over and that is near the windscreen that is not wrapped over.

The paintshield guys will sort this out for me (and they have done once already) but it will always come back. Paintshield as a company are superb and I rate them highly but this is a limitation of the product in my view. Perhaps less noticeable on other colours than white Neil.

Yes that is true where there is a hole there is a an edge, however I got a good tip from the detailer and that is I use a wooden cocktail stick to remove the dirt or wax residue (the wooden sticks are more genial that the plastic ones.)

Tried that - it helps but it's no solution.

Yes does offer full front protection. Have a choice between venture shield or suntek.
I might opt for the latter. £750 for either. As per quote : The only way you'd achieve an installation free of any edges is to remove lights grill and other parts fixed to the panels. I can achieve what you want on the bonnet and wings but not the other areas. Edges don't suffer front dirt marks |

Got this info:
"There really are only 2 types of 3rd Generation clear films available in the UK at the moment and the SunTek PPF is widely considered to be the best. The only other film available with similar specification is the Xpel Ultimate film and the main provider of this in the UK has recently ditched Xpel in favour of SunTek which says it all. It is obviously a bit more expensive compared to 2nd Gen films like 3M Ventureshield but has the following advantages: - it uses a new type adhesive (not the conventional solvent type), and therefore will not yellow - is a self-healing film should you pick up a scuff/scratch () In addition, SunTek have worked hard to ensure the gloss/orange-peel designed into the film (PPF-C/Clear) matches OE painted finishes and is therefore comfortably the most discrete when fitted and often completely imperceptible when tucked under. We also have access to their matte film PPF-M/Matte should your vehicle have matte paint or if you wanted to do something a bit different (bonnet in PPF-M with PPF-C elsewhere, stripes etc). Also, both films are available in 60" widths, so full bonnet coverage is an option." |

Got in touch with paint shield, they dont deal Xpel products anymore.
They won't reveal who they use now.. but I think I'm going recommendation via my detailer to use Suntek. Full front kit: front bumper, full bonnet, full wings (front), headlights & door mirror backs £750 is pretty decent. "Most will be edge less where I can do it but I don't design the patterns which are measured to leave a small gap as going right up to edge would create lifting. Also to achieve this on the front bumper would mean removing it. Your be happy with the finished result I know you will. " Not sure if he can remove and refit the front bumper.. which I'm not too keen in doing as getting back to factory fitted is always a challenge sometimes. |
