california car duster

what do you guys think of these things? i have a friend who uses one on his car (benz) and he says that they are great for removing dust and stuff when your car isn't really "dirty" but after reading these boards for a while, i am freaked out by the possibility that i might scratch up my paint by sand or dirt or whatever needs to be properly washed off.

I'd never use one. The only consideration would be for a light colored car, i.e. Silver or White.

If you *do* decide to use one, here are a couple guidelines to go by:

-Be sure your finish is waxed/sealed reguarly. The slick/smooth surface will allow less friction between the CCD and the paint.
-DON'T drag the CCD. It should BARELY touch the surface. If you need to pass it over 3 times, fine...Better that than inducing swirling and marring.
-Only use on dust (no water droplets with dirt in them) or pollen

In the end, I don't use them. I daily drive all my vehicles therefore they see dew, rain, snow, etc. Plus, all my vehicles are dark. The only time I would consider a CCD is if I had a garage queen that just got a bit dusty.
