Who do YOU let drive YOUR car?

Other than yourself, of course.

For me...

Friends = no.

Significant other = no (only because she has no desire to).

Family = yes, if they have a Y chromosome.

Just me. It's a standard transmission and not many people I know can drive one. You could say that my transmission choice turned into a fringe benefit. Can't drive it = Can't borrow it. Plus, they all know how obsessive/compulsive I am about my car, so anyone I know that does drive standard I think are bit afraid to tempt fate and ask for the keys.

When I was younger, I was in love with a 911 convertible in blue. My boss bought a brand new one, and it was just the way I wanted it. When I mentioned how much I loved the car, he just handed me the keys and said "Go out and enjoy it. At the end of the day , it is just a car. Plus, being as expensive as they are, might as well let everyone get some joy out of it."
I thought that that was pretty awesome, and I try to do the same with my friends now.

I like that train of thought.

You can tell everyone how great your ride is, but how do people really know until they drive it (riding as a passenger is not even close to the same, IMHO). Perhaps I should change my ways a bit...

I couldn't have said it better myself. Well, except by family, I definitely mean immediate family.

very mature, and very financially stable friends, like the doctors that work for my mom at her office, or very wealthy and mature friends who not only wouldnt push the car to its limits, but would also have the money to pay for anything that would go wrong. And that is it.

Absolutely no one else but me. My wife is scared shitless to drive it, plus she's a terrible driver. I don't even like her driving the e46...but I've got no choice. I don't even like letting the shop guy work my car on a dyno.

I'd let anyone I know drive it. Friends, family, girls (yes, girls), etc. After all, it's just a car.

My wife pulled it out of the garage once. Hasn't touched it since. Is completely afraid she'd mess it up and I'd be crushed. True...but that's what insurance is for.

Also a car-nut coworker. Impressed doesn't quite cover it. And he was keeping it civil as I was in the car...
