M3 v M4 VBOX Comparison

Hey Guys,

Since everyone has been asking for V-Box data, I went out and did some testing.

I picked up my SO M4 last week and still have my full bolt on e92 M3. Did a bunch of testing on the same flat road on pump gas from the same station and here were the best runs from both cars. Weather was around 75 degrees and I'm at sea level. For reference, my e92 dynoed at 396 whp and M4s on the same dyno are getting around 420. So the results make sense

M4 0-60: 4.35
M4 60-130: 9.38
M4 1/4 Mile: 11.82 @ 122.3

M3 0-60: 4.23
M3 60-130: 10.13
M3 1/4 Mile: 11.95 @ 120.5

M4 is making serious power stock.

In terms of which car I like better...they are different beasts. Wouldn't really say the M4 is better than the M3, however its easier to drive and handles/brakes better. Still getting used to the engine though. Obviously the NA sounds better though...although the M4 doesnt sound bad whatsoever.

Gonna be entertaining tomorrow to see what strategy the few m5/6 usual suspect loyalists use to try to scoff/dismiss these #s

Would love to see some more vbox #s from you and others, I'm sure some haters will use the usual "outlier" argument for now (that apparently never applies to their own vehicle)

Keep the vbox #s coming (Oh, and hope these are legit lol)

Is your M4 DCT or Manual?

Once you get the car broken in would be great to see your box results using launch control. Thanks for the test and happy to see the car achieving high 11s for some in testing as I expected.

Any 0-100 times for each?

Both cars honestly are trapping about 3-4 mph higher than I would expect. Nice work

Yeah I have a harder time believing the E92 #s than the F82 lol. Those are like boosted E92 #s.

yeah the traps and quarter mile times are very fast

it is clear that the m4 is the much more powerful car. worse launch and 0-60 but it makes up a lot of speed by the quarter mile. that's why I want to see the 0-100. its still traction limited, but less so and reflects the real world power very well IMO

excellent results though. I cant freaking wait to get mine, even though its manual and will be slower in things like the quarter mile, but not in gear acceleration which is what matters to me.

Where on the Gulf Coast are you? You should swing through Atlanta on your way home from PCD. I'm estimating to have my F80 in by then too. We could do a photo shoot

nice but not the same as actual time slips. even C&D, which is notoriously generous with their numbers, could "only" manage an a 12.1/119.

well, he does state the E9X is a "full bolt on". Based on earlier posts, my guess is it is modded (possibly tuned?) so that will give the E9x some extra power. I would think that is why he compares the F8X as being good for 'pure stock'.

OP, can you advise what the mods are on the E9x (or point to a thread where you have summarized them?)
