Washer Bottle Blocked
Hi
335i E92 purchsed from main dealer Dec 2006. 11k miles. Recently screen wash wipe failed i.e. no water getting to screen though I could hear the little motor whirring. Main dealer advised some "crystallisation" was evident in the pick up/filter area in the washer bottle and advised not a warranty item. Cost me £100. I have only filled the bottle twice maybe three times since new. BMW UK wont pay under warranty and are refusing to budge. their position is that its not a manufacture issue. Car is garaged every night. The wash/wipe is now stronger than ever, though previously I had no reason to believe there was any problem. They have failed to reply to this point and dont want to enter into further dialogue. Anyone had similar experiences and do I have a point? Thanks. |

Some cheapo screenwash additives can clog the washers - or even no screenwash can clog. I've had it on other cars i've owned. Bit steep to charge you £100 to clean though.
Were they pouring single malt through it to clean it?

uham, what did you fill the washer bottle with - water or screen wash of some kind?
I think you might find it difficult to prove it is indeed a warranty item. I think NathanJT had a problem with his windscreen washer... try a search on the UK forum.

anyone know how to remove the bottle? I have tried and failed to remove the wheel arch liner.. what am i doing wrong?
I have taken the bolts out of the liner towards to the back of the wheel arch, but I cannot see how to remove the liner without being brutal! likely I won't be able to replace it. Any help please? |

Top tip of the day there then ?
Did you just drop the tablet in, or dissolve it first? . |

Crumble it up a bit first....it's too big otherwise. Left it about 2 hours then bingo

Had same symptoms after using non BMW windscreen fluid, the pump was turning with little water on the windscreen. The headlight jets were working well. Tried Calgon overnight and still blocked. Unplugged the pipe going into the jets and tried blowing into it. The water in the tank bubbled for a second then was blocked, so used a cheap Halfords tyre compressor and it cleared the blockage. Filled with some hot water from tap to dissolve any extra gunge and the windscreen washers now work great.

I had this problem and decided to fix it myself. I searched for a DIY for cleaning the filter. I mean it's only a water bottle how hard can it be? 3 hours later, hands cut to ribbons and the whole of the drivers side wheel arch removed I finally managed to get the bottle out, removed the pump and gave it a good clean. It was all blocked up with black slime. 1 hour later everything was back together (no bits left over). Jumped in the car and tried the washers but still no water. I could hear the pump and smell the fluid but no sign of water. Jumped back out the car and looked under the bonnet only to see water collecting around the cover at the scuttle panel. I decided to whip this off and try disconnecting the hose from the jet to blow through the hose which is supposedly a quick fix for the blockage problem. When I removed the panel I discovered the hose wasn't even connected to the washer jet . I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
