Trim around windows

WHile washing the car today, I noticed the aluminum trim around my windows is etching, like water spots, but it wont come out.

Does anyone know what I can try on this to remedy the issue. I never put anything on the trim to protect it, should I be putting something on it.

Ill try to get pictures later today.

menzerna micro polish should take care of it. but you need a PC for that and if you hit you paint with it you would have to seal it again. Eagle1 nano polish is pretty good. also try mother's chrome polish. i like the nano polish because it also protects after it polishes

Well I hit it with meguiars scratch x, to start light. Got 99 % of the etching off, the last tiny spot I wont even bother going any more aggressive, its so minor only I can see it and you have to my really close. I then put on like 5 coats of P21S carnuba wax. Should do the trick. Its not chrome.

I keep seeing people put painters tape over their trim and badges before using a buffer and polish. Are you saying I don't need to do that for the chrome trim around the windows on my 330i? Like the OP's trim, mine has some dullness from water spots on it. Should I just polish it like the paint?

Cool. I got the same issue and happen to have some Scratch X. I have P21S Multi-Surface High Finish Restorer and it works wonders on my exhausts. I tried a tiny bit on the window trim and it didn't make a difference... maybe I wasn't aggressive enough but I figured it'd be somewhat effective based on how great it is on my exhausts.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot! BTW I was referring to this product: P21S Multi-Surface Finish Restorer - it's not the wax

FYI P21S wax is one of the worst waxes on the market. It contains parrafin/beeswax which does NOTHING to protect the paint from UV rays.
I would take turtle wax/ nufinish/ over P21S. On top of that it doesnt last at all.

P21S did come out with a new wax thats 100% carnauba, but for $50 theres better alternatives out there.

always use a chemical cleaner before using abrasives, this goes for almost anything in detailing.

Are you referring to me Fminus? And if so what chemical cleaner do you recommend.

Whoa. I was with you with everything up until this.

I have never needed to use a chemical cleaner before abrasive polishing. More like the other way around. What are you basing this on? Does it make polishing easier. Does the polisher grab less?

Thanks, Joy.

I don't know some of the terms you guys are using to describe the condition of the trim. But I have gloss black shadowline window trim and it looks really bad, because it has blotches all over it. They sometimes rub off with your finger, but normal car wash soap does not remove it. It's multi colored like oil looks in a puddle. Any idea how to remove this film?

Always use a cleaner before abrasives, Klasse AIO is great for that.
Im basing this on the same principal that you start with the least intrusive method.

That principal is great, but when you see swirls, I automatically know it needs a compounding. So I ask, does the chemical cleaner prior to abrasives allow for easier buffing. I always felt satisfied right after a clay to jump right into compounding/polishing. Thanks for the input.
