Question Does the M4 have fake engine sounds piped through its radio speakers ! I hope not !

Someone told me recently that to enhance the sound of the new M4 engine BMW pipes fake sounds through the radio speakers PLEASE tell me that this is not true.!

If this is correct info is a B M W sport OEM exhaust available for the M4?
I saw it on the website but was unsure if it was a standard part or an option ? If a sport exhaust is an option does anyone know if it be electronically controlled to offer a sport and also a quieter tone like my current factory supplied Porsche sport sounds exhaust

After 25 years of BMW's ( see my email address yes I did own a 1986 m535i gray mkt car It was fantastic!) I bought a 2006 911. 997 Silver Porsche coupe w sport seats Porsche sport exhaust and a 6 speed manual It is a beautiful car and has a timeless design but at age 60 it is not very comfortable for longer trips It only has 27k miles and is better than new but I am considering the idea of buying a M4
The Porsche engine has such a beautiful sound I would hope that the new M car would also sound great without any phony enhancements . That would really disappoint me If so a better option might be a slightly used E92 !

They do pump in engine noise but its a microphone enhancing the real engine. Not totally fake. It can be disabled with coding.

It does but it's insignificant. Someone here said it was 2-3% of the sound per something they read from BMW.

If you dumped the pedal in a tunnel and listened to the exhaust, you will know there is minimal active sound actually entering the cabin when you hear how much is being produced outside by the exhaust. Like many others, I will be coding mine out when I install an Akra exhaust for the sake of clarity.

BMW M Head of Project Management, Carsten Pries, had this to say:

Quote:
"The engine note in the cabin is largely pure. The electronic noise is minimized and only makes up 2% to 3% of the sound you hear"

It is a real-time amplification of induction noises made by the engine, not fake.

Serious tho... I have seen several posts about this mic somewhere under the hood. Ppl can't get past that.

I did read that they recorded the sounds of "a" car and then synthesized them to match the rpm of the car so it would be instant and sound just like the car that had been recorded at some point during R&D. So much money invested here not really sire why.

Where is the mod to turn up the sounds from 2% to 20% so we can all hear what they are trying to pipe in.

Rather its 2% or 50%. I think it comes down to the principle to some people.

I still find it laughable that people claim that it's "horrible" and that they "wouldn't purchase the car because of it" Good

Apparently, mostly to those who do not own the F8X. They are the ones that are complaining.

I guess it doesnt use a mic but this article says it amplifies real sound. Its not a recording or anything. Unless this is wrong.

Same people who HATE the exhaust sound and would never buy the car because of it but have never heard it in person or driven the car.

Yes real sound of a car recorded previously and stored in the sound files and played back to match actual rpm.

OMG! Fake noise! Why didn't y'all tell me before I ordered?!?!?!?!

Anyone wanna take over my order?

I mean, sure, it sounded great in the car when I drove it twice but.....people never like fake things. It's why women with fake boobs or other plastic surgery never make it in industries reliant on appearance.

...except acting.
...and, well, every industry in which appearance matters...

Seriously OP, only way to know is to drive it yourself.

What is interesting is a few people have coded it out BUT I haven't see a plethora of 'good riddance' threads. as noted, BMW said 2%. Who knows what it actually is, but it doesnt seem that significant. Most people just don't like the idea it is there, as opposed to genuine problems with what it does.

Come to think of it, all the music I listen to is fake. Anything less than a live concert is fake. No, even live concerts are fake because they use mics and amps and speakers. The only thing that is real is when my kids practice their musical instruments.

That's it, I am going to rip the stereo head unit out of my M3 tomorrow morning.

Did you READ the article - NO RECORDING

"But, the good news is that we've confirmed with BMW Germany that it's a live amplification of the S55 engine's natural sounds. There is no artificially generated sound or pre-recorded track being played. This sound amplification takes place through the M3/M4/s stereo speakers."

...and make your kids sit in the back seat and practice their instruments.

Hopefully they play something small like a flute as opposed to tuba or piano.

If it's not recorded and there is no mic where is it coming from to be amplified? Just curious.... How do the speakers get the signal to amplify.

I'll find the article I read about my earlier statement and post it for you.
