Turning off the txt reading feature

Is there a way to turn off the feature that reads your txt's out loud when they come in? Can you code this off?

Also, can you code the car to not display your contact list?

what car is it?
mine doesn't read it automatically

you should be able to set in the bluetooth of the phone not to synch the contacts
