Annoying humming sound...
Hey guys, I just noticed this today. Having only a little under 400 miles, I noticed that the car makes an annoying humming sound. The problem is that it's rythmic, kinda like: huuuumm, huuuuumm. huuuumm.
Of couse, I only hear when at a light or when idlying in a quite area. Has anyone experienced or heard this? Thank you! |

6MT?
Could be a clutch plate vibrating? Try putting it in gear and just barely letting out the clutch so that it barely starts to engage. (I think the noise is pretty normal, used to happen to me but haven't noticed it lately)

Yup, it's a 6MT.... I'll try what you suggested and post the results back here.
Boy, I can definitely say with confidence though, that car sure IS NOT quite on the inside... you can hear all sorts of noise. |

yup, I don't know for a fact but it seems to me it has something to do with the cabin ventilation system, like a residual sound from vents or something. I can only hear of the radio is off completely

I noticed that for the first time yesterday (5300 mi.). I've also noticed a seemingly fuel surging like sound at idle...almost like when a pump going bad and empty tank...although my tank was full.

I have had this too many times. Annoying isn't it. Almost like a very faint phone ringing. I'd love if someone knew what this was and could give a suggestion as to how to fix it. (better than turning up the radio) It is rather annoying!

I think I've got this same noise as well. I only hear it with the radio off and idling at a stoplight. Mine's also a 6MT. Has anyone taken their car to the dealership to ask them about this noise?

Ok I was playing but you have to get used to it. If you take it to the dealer they will tell you the same thing. If you havent had a turbo'ed car before, now be it twin turbo. Its tough to keep these things completely quiet. If its a MT then you will get that. Just enjoy the hummer..

Yep, my first car with turbos so I guess I'm still adjusting to the noises. I did some more searching and found this other thread... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50612
Someone said it's coming from the electric coolant pump. I kind of figured it was normal since it was so rhythmic but I'm glad I got affirmation. Thanks. |

Yeah, and just to let you know kerwin22, I did take it to the dealer. And while it wasn't my SA that heard it, my CA said that to the best of his knowledge, the sound is normal.
Having said that, I didn't bother making an appointment to have it checked out since it seems like it is normal after all. |
