Safe to go to the dealer with Procede bypass plug?
This would be for a software upgrade and standard service - Obviously V2 installed so vacuum lines look stock and no grounding wire visible. Any possible reason for dealer to open the ecu or detect via OBD?

yeah didn't someone have a problem and they voided there warranty b/c they saw this? that must have been a shit dealer but still why take the chance...don't give them a reason to search for faults and see the ones you can't clear...just do a complete uninstall

I've taken my car to the dealership before with the bypass plugs in place... However, there was no reason for them to open the ecu...

If I was going to the $tealership for warranty work then I would remove the unit, mainly because my car has other mods so they may have reason to look for it.
However as luck would have it a local $tealership has just lost their BMW franchise but their master techs are staying put (it's rumored to be changing to Audi with the local Audi changing to BMW). So I will be going there for all my maintenance and as they are not BMW they won't care . |

A 4 year warranty is a valuable thing. Something to be extra careful with. I'd take mine out. Not worth loosing something I am paying for.

take it out man....you don't want to be kicking yourself later. Try selling a care without a warranty. I need to take mine in because the brake vacuum line is leaking and I will take mine out.

Good choice. Considering the minimal time of pulling it out, which gets much faster each time you perform the operation, leaving it in is 'just asking for it'. If you have one of those SA's that's unusually cool and you work it out before hand, maybe, but even then I'd pull it just in case you have major engine trouble that causes the SA to become less cool about the mod due to pressure from the service techs. My SA is one of the cool ones when it comes to reasonable mods, but I still revert to stock with this mod due the risk:reward ratio.
When you take it out, be sure to wipe off any gummy residue on the wires from electrical tape and, most importantly, restore the original dual solenoid tubing (if you're running 1.4x). I've heard that driving it for a day or two after reversion allows for proper ECU adaptation to completely normal parameters, minimizing any risk of detection if they're suspicious and press the question. Is this right? Anyway, it's really easy to revert to stock with this mod, so why risk it? |
