Spark Plug install help? MD

Hi all,

My 135i has been idling very rough when cold starting the engine. Seems to run fine after its a little warm. I thought maybe the JB4 was causing the issue, but its the same when I turn it off.

After doing some research people have suggested that maybe the spark plugs are the issue. I have about 54k on the engine and so far have never had them replaced, so I'm assuming that's the problem?

Anyone have any ideas? And if they do need to be replaced is anyone in the MD area willing to help me out in replacing it?

I haven't bought replacement spark plugs yet. Any recommendations on what works best for a tuned engine?

Thanks!

USE spark plugs bought from a BMW dealer. Not afermarket Bosch ones.

Replacing them is easy...

Replacement Spark plugs

I'm trying to replace Spark plugs on my 2009 BMW135I (60K miles). I came cross these different types & brands. Please post your reviews on the list below. I'm looking for a good balance between Performance & durability

brands: Bosch, Continental, Pulstar, E3, NGK

Type:
Platinum
Dual Platinum
Iridium
plasmacore( Pulstar)
Diamond tip ( E3)

Thanks a lot

Siddy.

So I swapped out my injectors yesterday with BMW OE ones I got from Silver Spring BMW. Two of the spark plugs (#4 and #6) had oil on the plug and the threads. Which made me think there is something more wrong than just worn out spark plugs. Either way the engine ran smooth as silk while I was driving home. So I thought all was good...

Then this morning it was beginning to have a semi-rough idle again, which disappeared after the engine warmed up. It hasn't thrown codes yet, and no hesitation in acceleration. But I'm wondering if I need walnut shell blasting or a new valve cover gasket?

I'll try and post pictures of the spark plugs when I get a chance.

No I did not, I was hoping the spark plugs would be sufficient. Is there any way I can check if its the coils?

Oil on the plug tips/threads is likely the valve cover gasket.

When servicing the 135i, make sure to get the 18 pack: Plugs, Coils, and Injectors for OPTIMUM performance. You really don't need to replace the injectors all the time if you send em off to Dr Injector for matching and cleaning, but usually per the shop manual, every 60K, got to do the plugs, coils, and injectors.

If there is oil in the spark plug tubes, I would be fixing that before anything else. Fix what you know is wrong!!!! I would probably replace the coil packs that got oil damaged as well.

May be a cracked valve cover.

And I would ONLY use the plugs from the dealer. Just make sure they give you the correct ones.

Replacing the plugs is pretty straight forward. Takes me about a half hour, but I have done them now several times.
