N54 and Gasoline Quality
All,
I plan to ship my 335 to China if/when I work there. The only concern I have is that 335 is not currently sold in China (everything else is from 320i, 325i, 330i... to 760i). And the only explanation I have been given (by forums, bmw sales, etc.) is that gas quality (in terms of cleanliness/purity, not octane rating) in China is not good enough for the N54. Thus, I am wondering if this is true since almost every other company (Porsche, Audi, MB...) offers turbo engines in China... or is it direct injection (although plenty of Audi/VW FSI here)... or is it just product placement/strategy? Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! |

That's what I was told too. Supposedly the audi a4 turbo is modified to suit the local conditions as well. The very first version was not localised and supposedly faced problems.
These are all hearsay from my colleague in china. |

Sounds like way too much hassel. I'd just leave the 335i here and enjoy it when I returned, or sell it and get a car to use there then a new one when you get back.

well it would be very hard to find a 300hp+ car that doesn't cost $100k+ in China... 330i costs about $100k... and that's only 270hp

But you'll pay importing tax to get it there, same thing at the end. Don't do it, as no service and parts when u need it there.

Get balloon tires...the roads are great there. And a 'cow catcher' for the local livestock. That would be my suggestion.
Heck, couldn't you just pay someone to drive you around for the same cost as shipping that thing? How long are you going to be there? In Bejing? Planning on drag racing some of those "tractor/chopper" vehicles?
