Jb4 is awesome, just one problem at the moment
So I installed my jb4 a few days ago and to say the least it really woke this car up. There is a night and day difference in performance all around. There is one problem I'm faced with at the moment... Putting all the power down. These 275s just ain't cutting it.
I'm thinking a 295/30 Ventus V12 for the rear while leaving my 12mm spacers on hoping they won't rub. I was also contemplating a 305/30 but would have to eliminate my spacers... I'm wondering what everyone else thinks about this, I have cattless downpipes on the way and e85 in the future so I need some traction! Let me know what you all think, any advice is appreciated! |

Wider wheels will help get more tire on the ground vs. putting wider rubber on the narrower OEM wheels. The Hankooks are nowhere near as grippy as the stock PSS. Be careful confusing wider with more grip. The tire compound is just as, or more, important. If you go wider, also stay with a tire that has at least as much grip from the rubber compound. My experience with the Hankooks is they are a huge step down from the PSS so I would bet a 295 or 305 Hankook has similar ultimate traction to a 275 PSS. Just a guess but I bet I'm correct. I would run a 295 Yoko AD-08 on an 10.5 or 11" wheel... THAT will give you the traction you want. Better compound and wider wheel to ensure you get all of the rubber on the ground.

If you want more straight line grip, you should go with a taller tire. Not a wider one. Although a sticky, tall, and as wide as you can tire is probably the best combo.
I had 275/35/18 Nitto NT05's in the back of my FBO+E85 135I 6 speed. 1st gear hookup was amazing! Wish I would have gotten a taller profile, but I would have rubbed. Planning on putting a 275/40/18 NT05 on the back of the M3 as soon as I get it. |

Bridgestone RE-11 is the only tire that I could recommend that wouldn't make the sacrifices the others mentioned would. Wet traction still wont be close to PSS. Every other tire loses significant comfort or is absolutely awful in the wet.

I understand your frustration, my car breaks traction in 5th gear. I've had good luck with Dunlop Direzza's on past cars, unfortunately their size selection is somewhat limited. These cars should have come with 305's from the factory...

I'm on the fence between 305 and 295. I'm keeping the stock wheel so u want to utilize it the best way possible

hankook ventus v12 r mainly used on show cars that need to stretch the shit out of their sidewalls, and they r very cheap compared to other tires. That tells a lot. Those tires shouldnt be anywhere near a sports car with a sport wheel setup.

Each to their own. I would not put Hankooks nor a JB4 on my F8x. I want a road car, not much interested in drag racing. Pretty amazing what a wide range of talents the F8x has. Have fun regardless!

Also remember optimal wheel/tire sizing... u put to wide of a tire on a wheel and it will have worse traction and vise versa. Even before that, compound type is #1.

Pilot cup 2 are the best so far. We have been doing a lot of logging and switching maps and it holds well with pilot cup2. Stock tires we have no traction. With downpipes and e85 you will have some fun.

What are they like in the rain? I'm considering RE-11, AD-08 and the Cup 2 next summer but I will use them for both street and track duty.

Agreed not ideal but completely streetable IMO. THe main downsides being costs and rain ability.

I think any weather below 50F will also be far from ideal... but same applies to PSS so that whole argument may be invalid.

Also, Hankook makes the RS-3 (which IMHO ((and many many many other people who brought their E92s to the track) is one of the best tires one can get for that exact use) and it is worlds different than just the V12 evo. My $.02 I actually just picked up some RE-11s after not getting the sizing I truly wanted in RS-2 or R888. I have zero experience with them but read great reviews online. Can you share your thoughts? I appreciate it.
