Morristown BMW and BMW of Manhattan screwing the waitlist
OK so after spending some time on the phone with both dealers this is what i've found out.
Morristown BMW has a "waitilist" which they will take 1,000 and put you on it. They have 5 cars allocated from the "first" build which are going for MSRP + 10/20/30k these cars were offered to people at a "who can pay the most" rate so effectively they just bypassed the whole waitlist system and sold to whoever could pay the most. They say that the cars after these first five should be at msrp but who knows. I'm sure as hell not giving them an interest-free loan on my money until they can come up with a car in august. BMW of Manhattan said that they "canceled" the waitilist and are no longer taking deposits since people on the waitlist were bailing. They said there are 38 people on some list, but that they are not sure how they will handle it. Seems to me like they are also just trying to bypass the waitlist and make MSRP + xxx amount of money. I believe the words they all used were "whatever the market will bear." I was very ready to give either dealership a deposit and wait it out until next fall, but with these shady tactics even from BMW-NA along with the delay in release price perhaps I will just get an e46 or an RS4 instead. |

I don't think this is "shady" but market forces at work - and yes, sometimes market forces don't work to one's advantage. You reinforce my own decision to wait the early mania out. Can't you wait until 4Q? I mean, will getting a RS4 or E46 satisfy you over the ownership period?

Have you thought about a used E60 M5? I'm still tossed between the E60 M5 and E92 M3.

Well they are not "screwing" the waitlist as long as they go to the first guy on the list and offer the car at their desired price. If the 1st guy turns it down then they go to the second guy and so on. Promises for MSRP have to recieved in writing. If you dont have it but expect it, then you are most likely going to get "screwed". Jason

Don't play their game. Unless you really want the car the minute it first arrives, wait a little bit. Even in NY, not many people will be willing to pay a premium for the car.

I went there 6 months ago and they offered me MSRP in writing for 1k on the waitlist. I can only assume everyone else on the lsit had the same deal. BMW manhattan said "we are not allowed to go above MSRP don't even think about that.. we ARE bmw" Now they are telling me that the first few people on the waitlist got bypassed for the ++over msrp. |

The facts are that the dealers live for this type on market opportunity. They will mark up anything they can make money on and there is always someone willing to pay to be first let them spend the money and know you will save 10/20K vs them. I have been looking at the GT-R and the M3. The same thing is going on with those cars. I would rather wait 6 months if I have to, then pent up demand will die down and reasonable behaviors will return.

Why are you all so quick to make a decision? I've also been looking at other options such as a E60 M5 where Military Sales is about $73350.
The official price is not even out yet for the E92 M3. Standby...
