Any ideas on painting or wrapping the roof black ?

I ordered with steel roof, needed the mounts for carrying bikes, but I want the look of the CF roof.

I saw a 5-series that painted the roof gloss black and it looked good.

TIA!

Could always 3m carbon fiber vinyl wrap the roof http://www.ebay.com/itm/3M-Di-Noc-Bl...7fe4b8&vxp=mtr. But that could be considered blasphemy in certain parts.

Do not use CF vinyl. It's the worst possible way of faking a CF roof since it is never in a high glossy finish.

Just take it it to a place that installs clear bras and works with vinyl. Gloss black vinyl roofs are common and should run you 200-400 bucks depending on where you go.

Right... an unsupported, imprecise method that BMW won't stand by in the case that:

1. There is a roof integrity issue due to the drilling of the CF. Unlikely, but you have to think why BMW didn't just take 20 minutes and do it themselves

2. The roof rack fails, damaging your bike and your BMW...

While many drivers have done the amazing feat of modifying their vehicles, they are also taking the risk that the non-oem job is an as-is experience.

So some of us bought steel roofs despite the CF one looking epic... With all of that being said, you didn't really answer their question.

I saw a glossy CF roof that made me do a double take, and then I realized it was with a sunroof... Enthusiast Details in Mamaroneck NY did the job, check out their instagram for an impressive job on the CF.

Ive been getting quotes from $400-500 to do a gloss black wrap. I feel like they were pretty damn high. Did everyone else who got theirs wrapped, get the strip with the bike rack cover (cover included) wrapped as well?

Any recent pics of this done on F8X

I personally would just accept what I own. I wouldn't want a 70k dollar car looking like some teenagers ratted out Hyundai.

If you want to consider cf, 5D carbon fiber vinyl will give you a look similar to OEM. I however can't comment on the adhesive quality (something that matters if you're wrapping tight corners)

If you decide to wrap, make sure to use a quality film. Avery Dennison makes a CF print, but gloss does appear to be a bit muted. If you don't really care about the ultra gloss look, then this might be what you are looking for.

https://www.metrorestyling.com/Avery...w900-194-x.htm

I wonder if anyone has done this film that can comment on how glossy it really is.

Maybe adding a higher gloss clear top coat like a Suntek or xPel PPF to the Avery vinyl might get the desired results. I've used this multi-layer method on smaller wrapped pieces, but not sure how well it would hold up on something like a roof. Of course, at this point, if you are paying someone to do this, you're probably close to having a professional paint job. So weigh the pros and cons of each based on your unique situation.

FWIW, I ended up getting a CF roof in the end, looks too good to pass on, IMO.
