Do these ever turn on?
Is there a setting somewhere are or both of my lamps burned out? I have no errors saying I have lamps out. I have owned our 2009 E91 for 6 months and I have yet to see these inside driving lights come on. I run exterior lighting in the auto mode, but nothing. Turn it to the other lighting positions and I see nothing. I put them on brights... and yep, nothing.
I searched photos on the web, and yep... not one single photo of an E90 with those lights on. Anyone have any insight on this? |

With halogen lights, I'm not sure, but with HIDs those are cornering lights only. FTP and high beam are still HID. (I have an E92 so no halogen option.)

FTP and DRL's for inner lights... I have HID's and don't remember them (inner lights) coming on when signalling/turning? I have been behind a car where I can see my lights and signaled, that's how I would know.. I have an '07 E90 btw. For high beam it is HID as you mention.

Today I Learned that there apparently nonadaptive HIDs although I do not know if they were ever sold in the US so they may behave differently. |

As said before, they come on when put into reverse as well (I think only when headlights are on though) but I have no idea why. It makes no logical sense. I'll have to double check the flash to pass feature though, I'm pretty sure my HIDs are the flash to pass (pull the stalk toward me) although maybe it has something to do with my lights always being in the "auto" position? My '08 e92 has the adaptive HIDs.

"...The inboard "headlight" comes on--the one nearest the grille. In other words, the area inside the inboard angel eye lights up on the side to which you are turning. It comes on when you turn the wheel, it also comes on with your turn signal. It will also turn off if you stop at a light with your signal still on. You will notice the latter in the reflection from the car in front of you--this is normal. Both of them come on when you are in reverse..." I am now even more curious to experience this "phenomenon".. I typically do not have my headlights set to "auto", (apparently that needs to be the case), could explain not observing this. |

I am curious to see this in action as well. So not only do my adaptive headlights move in curves, those illuminate in tighter turns and reverse. That's pretty cool actually.

Negative on mine.. I have Active Steering, Adaptive Headlights, HID's, etc.. Build is 01/07.
Headlight switch in "auto" mode. I did not observe the inner lights come on in any of the below mentioned situations.

Mine is an 01/07 build E92. I can confirm that mine turns on when signalling, when reversing, and when turning at slow speeds. It turns off maybe 5 seconds after the signal cuts off - a slow fade out.

On my car (with HIDs), those are the DRLs.

LCI (for sedans) have Halos as DRL's I think. It can be coded or modded to have Halos as DRL's for pre-LCI models. |

Don't know if this is the same for an 2009 328i Xdrive, but it's easy enough to check. BTW, if you want them on all the time, there may be a way to recode the car to do it because I saw a Series 3 with them on while driving, which is what prompted my inquiry. Good luck!

Those are cornering lights. They come on when you turn the steering wheel a certain amount.
