MRF Engineering BMW M4. 1/2 Mile trap speed record at Shift S3ctor AA7
Hey everyone,
This past weekend was the Shift_S3ctor Air Strip Attack (AA7) at the Coalinga municipal air field in central California. For those who have attented this event, there are some seriously fast and ballistic cars that show up such as twin-turbo Heffner Lamborghini Gallardo's with 2000 RWHP trapping 230MPH. I had the opportunity to build up a car for a client who was a former E92 M3 owner and he wanted the car to be ready to go for this air-strip event reliably. This M4's specifications are: -2015 Mineral Grey -Full Black Merino Leather -M-Double Clutch Transmission -Stock Exhaust -JB4 with custom boost profile mapping -H&R Super Sport lowering springs -iND Distribution Painted front reflectors -BMW Performance Kidney Grills -Advan Racing TC-III Wheels -18x9.5 Front with Nitto NT-05 275-35-18 tire -18x10.5 Rear with Nitto NT-05 295-35-18 tire One of the major drawbacks of the new M3/M4 platform is that it is very twitchy and it has traction limitations, especially when modified with extra power. With a few kinematic adjustments to the M4's alignment and wheel/tire setup, it was an instant improvement in stability, grip and driver confidence. The next changes had to be made with the boost profile with the help of the Burger Motorsports JB4 to aid in traction and try to mimic the power and torque profile of a naturally aspirated car. Thankfully these changes ended up paying off and the car did well on the strip. After the first pass, at 154.7 MPH, we instantly realized that the slightly dusty air field was creating traction issues so the front tire pressures were raised and the rear tire pressures were dropped substantially along with changing the settings on the M-Adaptive suspension and toning the car down from "Sport" (Sport+ is almost useless). Once these small changes were made, it allowed better power modulation and the car improved 2.1 MPH in trap speed in the 1/2 mile. The best trap speed ended up being 156.8 MPH. For the next event, we are hoping to achieve 161+ MPH for trap speed with some additional improvements. It has been an exciting journey thus far with BMW's newest M car and the humbling learning curve that comes with a new platform. Thanks for looking! Attached are some pictures of the car at the event.

nice results, and car looks good. would love to hear what changes you made to the alignment that had so much success.
However, IMO the car is not twitchy or unstable at all in stock form on track. in fact, the stability was probably the standout feature for me. maybe its less predictable than stock with more boost via the jb4 and lowering springs, but not stock. a 997 911 is twitchy, and my 1m was much more twitchy. I would agree that the car could stand to have some wider wheels and tires, and is traction limited under power on corner exit if you lay into it. :twocents:
