I have enquired with Wagner to perhaps look at doing a GB. Will there be much interest if I can drum up some prices from Wagner for their FMIC and/or their DP?

Sam

What advantages would I see from the FMIC Sam?
Same question for downpipes?

Thanks

Well, lots of work and research has gone into them and from my reading there still seems little factual data but it's a Plug and Play IC and it DEFINITELY improves. Check out the Diesel performance thread on this forum and there's a lot of reading to be done.

Seb,
I'm still at early stages of my reading on tuning. I can now talk about ICs with relatively basic knowledge but I encourage you to read on FMICs and DPs for 335Ds either on google or run a search on the forum... few of the US boys are running INSANE performance and that is my next goal!

I have asked Carsten for his prices on a GB so just gonna' wait and see buddy what he drums up. He's also on this forum too I believe....

I also hear Imran at Evolve may also offer an 'Evolve IC' but not sure if that even went into production...

More to follow on this thread.

I've got the Wagner FMIC. Its a great bit of kit, well made and such a simple thing to fit... even I managed it

Good luck with your search.

No. not yet at any rate.. the unit is designed to be plug and play using the existing pipework.

I'm sure the pipework wont stand up to the job if you start pushing the power up so will probably have to upgrade those in the not to distant future especially since I just brought some vsrf downpipes which I will be fitting shortly.

Cheers Sam. I'm familiar with this stuff in general, but I don't know anything about specifics for our 335d.

This is the bit I still don't get though, particularly when I hear about people pushing more than 350bhp on a 335d: the gearbox is rated 700 NM maximum torque by ZF; they'd know, they designed the damn thing. Putting more through it will significantly reduce the gearbox's life. And seeing as a simple remap can bring you to 700 NM, how are people getting more still? Are they just forsaking their gearbox? Or is there something I'm missing?

Much as I'd love more power and torque (one always does, right?), I would be reluctant to do any further performance mods because I'd be worried about the gearbox exceeding its max rated torque.

it has to be rated to a particular vehicles weight plus towing and i believe the gearbox is used in other cars ,some heavier,i have heard of many running well over the 700nm limit with no issues

I'm not an expert so please forgive my ignorance, but surely the maximum torque that the components in the gearbox can take is unrelated to the weight of the vehicle? I've no doubt the 'box is used in heavier vehicles, but they won't be producing more than 700NM and therefore all would be fine

I have also heard of many running more than 700 NM with no issues. What I would like to know though, is for how long?

put it in a 5 tonne truck it would destroy it at 700nm immediately,a caterham would last forever

I can see what you're getting at, but I still don't agree - though I stand to be corrected!

Say you put the gearbox on a testbed where it isn't connected to the rear wheels, only to the engine. It's just spinning freely, so even "lighter" than your Caterham example. It still has a maximum amount of torque it can take before its failure rate increases significantly. I believe on our gearbox that amount is 700 NM.

I suppose the answer to this question boils down to: is the gearbox rated at 700 NM for any application, or is it rated at 700 NM as it is set up in our cars only?

Sorry to hijack Sam's thread btw.
