Rear Spoiler Replacement Complexity Q.....

Does some one has any experience replacing the rear spoiler on their M235i with the "M Performance Carbon Fiber Rear" one.

When they remove it, none of the tape residue is left behind. When I did it last night, I had a LOT of reside left behind. Goo Gone would not remove it, so I had to use the 3M aerosol automotive adhesive remover. you need to protect the entire surrounding area with painters tape, and dont leave any openings where the spray can drip into the tape and sit. The stuff is safe to use up to a point, but it can start to strip your paint. Good luck!

I've also done it, and like mteele said, removing the adhesive crap is the most difficult and time consuming part.
I used the "automotive goo gone" and slowly rubbed a layer off at a time, and resoaked.
Took forever..
After that though, putting the new one on is pretty easy.

Do you guys pry out the spoiler? or Do you guys use something similar to the tool shown on the video? Where can I buy one of those tools if I require one? How about the paper use at body shops to protect the entire area if I require to use the 3M Adhesive remover? Where do you guys get all these supplies? I do not have any of it and my Carbon Spoiler is on the way.

It's actually very simple to do. After I received my new car I used dental floss to break the seal between the old spoiler and the car. I used the 3M adhesive remover to break up the existing 3M tape on the trunk. This usually takes the longest (10-15 minutes). The CF rear spoiler itself is very easy to install if you take your time and make sure you have proper placement when slowly removing the 3M tape backing. Start to finish about 25 minutes.

Thank you guys for all the helpful comments. I used a piece of fish line to cut the tape which didn't took long.

What did took about two hours was the removal of the residual glue. I used Goo Gone because I was scare to use something stronger and damaging the paint due to my novice experience.

I'll be attempting this in a week or two. Probably give the dental floss a try

Sorry for the delay been really busy, but finally got around to it. Fitment and quality is on point. Couldn't be more happier with the purchase!
Here are some pictures from after the installation tonight.

Will get better pics once the crappy rain passes over.

Pain in the ass to remove the glue but finally got it all off leaving me with only 2 blisters.

1. Used fishing line while having a friend lift up as I go along the spoiler.
2. Used hair dryer to soften glue and remove the excess glue rubbing with your fingers.
3. Used 3m adhesive remover to clean up the residue left over
4. Used alcohol to wipe down the surface clean
5. Test fit and mark with painter tape where spoiler placement will be
6. Clean surface again and spoiler
7. Apply 3m adhesive tape
8. Carefully place and match tape placements
9. Press down firmly on all areas
10. ENJOY!!!

That video is extremely misleading. I believe my thought cycle went something like this:

1. Man that's a lot of crap
2. Goo gone smells like industrial cleaner...I feel it's starting to seep into me
3. Damn, I just went through my whole playlist and this crap is still here!
4. Who's my worst enemy...would I wish this on them...
5. No, no I wouldn't...
6. Damn that's a nice spoiler lol

Appreciate the dental floss tip though! I will say the best technique that worked for me was soaking goo gone into the adhesive, and slowly (and gently) pushing the layers off with a piece of plastic. I used a piece from my trim removal kit that happened to be the same width. You don't have to worry about scratching when the adhesive is so thick, but definitely be more mindful when you can start seeing the paint.

The entire removal process including the adhesive took about 20 minutes. 90% of the adhesive I just rolled off, the other 10% was small and came off with a microfiber dipped in goo gone.

Have any of you tried a heat gun to warm up the spoiler and tape first? I've had great luck removing 3m tape completely after getting the stuck on part warmed up to a consistent 120-130 degrees or so.

One kind of unrelated tip - before removing stock spoiler use some painters tape to mark a few reference points at least each corner. When you install the new one they won't be exactly what you need but at least you can measure off of those to get alignment done easily.
