Ordered SSK for 09 328i that was taller than lever in car???

so i bought the OEM short shift kit from tischer.. i actually pieced it out because i didn't want the knob. but when i was going to install it and took out the lever in the car i noticed that it was shorter than the one i ordered. i understand that my car could have came with a SSK installed but wouldn't it be the same exact length as the one i ordered.. heres pics to show top one is the one that came in the car and bottom is the one i ordered

The rotating point of the shifter is the ball, compare the distances, the SSK is much longer under the ball, thus giving more leverage (reducing gear distances) and the length from the ball to the top is smaller as well VS OEM.

My buddy who installed a SSK in his 325i e90 said his was lower by about an inch. Have you installed it yet? I'd put it in, then judge the difference. A short throw kit doesn't really need to be much short in height necessarily, because the main goal is a shorter throw distance between gears. Comparing my stock shifter throw to his with the SSK is a huge difference.

Why don't you just contact Tischer and make sure you received the proper part? Any part # on it that you can compare?

Although I do agree with evo chuck that it's longer under the ball and shorter above so maybe the style of shifter is made that way with it appearing to be higher

Nope. I've had mine in for 3-4 years now and hasn't changed a bit.

The shift knob height on the 328i ssk is higher than the 330i ssk. Supposedly the 335i shift knob height is somewhere in between the two.

I just installed the 330i ssk (lever only) on my 2008 335xi

Your only option is to use the 330i ssk if you didn't like the height of the 328i ssk (sticking to oem parts).

I read this thread to figure out what I wanted to do. They went into detail about the 328i and 330i ssk's.

This is what I used on my car. I don't know if anyone has done it on a 325xi but it will work on a 335xi and 328xi (except for the guy who had a 2011 335xi).

One piece of advice I would give. Take the time and pull the shift knob off and note how light it is. Think hard if you want a weighted shift knob so you can save yourself the additional shipping. If so, the weighted m-knob works great, it doesn't get hot or cold like a metal one. It is about 1/2" shorter so it does drop the total height also.

Talking from experience, I bought the lever and knob separately.

the knob height IS lower on the one you just bought. you have to align the balls to compare the difference, not the bearings.
