Tyre Pressure Sensors
The F30 being the first car with actual pressure sensors in the wheels was wondering if anybody knows what would happen if I fitted wheels withouth any sensors.
Thinking of reusing my E90 BBS 18" as winter tyres but they dont have any sensors. Any ideas if you get a warning on the dash or simply the vehicle information does not come up with a the pressure reading ? thanks

Cool thanks I presume that £105 each. I think coding will be the way to go. Though the way the weather is progressing time will tell. Down south anyway 4 years ago we had snow last couple of years my winters where barely on Dec / Jan and even then a lot of the time was more wet than cold. If I can code them out then I will probably do it otherwise might just sell the bbs

I Have had this problem for the last 3 weeks.
Part number 36112358383 (Cars > March 2014) has been discontinued by BMW and is no longer available. If you buy an individual valve it's £65 from BMW each. However there is a repair kit that come with 4 sensors which come to about £50 then you have to buy 4 valves which is another £50 all from BMW. Once I have the part number I will post them here. My dealer has ordered this for me. Last edited by geordiepaul; 11-04-2014 at 10:15 AM.. |

I'm thinking about this issue at the moment. I'm thinking of buying new 441m wheels with winter Dunlops from a company in Germany. I think the €200 option gives you fitted sensors included, but I'm not certain of this. I still don't have a chassis number, so it will wait til I do before ordering this lot. It comes to about £1930 plus shipping.

Probably the same as has happened for the last 80 years.

Pretty much that, you deal with it as you did in past. Sometimes we rely too much on tech anway.
Its case of coding out for winters only if I fit them which this years is looking unlikely as want get time to sort out the wheels in time anyway. When the summers go on I'll just re-anable them. Havent looked at the coding side of things yet but I suspect you can turn the old system on as well for speed rotation as on friends luxury 320D there are no wheel sensors

You are correct. I know little of coding but I do know you can essentially select the TPM as none, ABS (rotation speed) type, or full sensor type.

this is the key, I think the main thing is to check if coding can switch between TPMS and the ratation monitoring if it can you have a winner as should be easy enough to code

They'll have black rubber otherwise you would of had an error message and gong on start up. The earlier TPWS just relies on the rolling wheel rates so doesn't matter what wheels and tyres are fitted as long as they all roll the same.
