135i M Sport
Dealer posted a 1 series coupe brochure out to me yesterday and it arrived in the post this morning. Flicking through it, I was surprised to read a few things specifically about the 135i:
- The M Sports suspension is tuned specifically for the 135i (unique to the 135i) - The M styling kit on the 135i has no fog lights - The brakes are uprated (hence no fog lights) and I think they are six-piston callipers at the front - The ASC/DSC has been tuned for the 135i's sports suspension EVO magazine actually say: The six-cylinder produces the same 295lb ft of torque as the V8 in the M3, but while the M-car peaks at 3900rpm, the 135i maintains maximum torque from 1300 to 5000rpm. Combined with a 100kg weight advantage, it’s not surprising that the 135i’s 0-62mph time of 5.3sec is just half a second behind the M3’s. BMW’s 4th-gear 50-75mph figures show the 135i closer still, with a time of 5.0sec to the M3’s 4.9. Putting looks aside (although the brochure manages to make it look terrific in Sedona red and Le Mans blue) it does strike me as quite a special car. I am seriously tempted!

And therein lies the rub. I bet they won't hold their value well though, and though they'll probably be rare secondhand (compared even to the 123d coupe) they may well be a steal. I'll be keeping my eyes open in 18 months or so....

I agree with all the above - they are very tempting, but typically overpriced new - but will be great used buy. I'd normally agree that the residual will plummet like other 1ers, but going on the above most people seem to really want a new 1er coupe of some flavour so they could hold value better than expected!
PS I also read that the 135i has different (not electrically assisted, but hydraulic, hence better feel) steering than the other 120s/123d coupes. |

I'm fairly sure that, as usual, most euro markets can spec these wheels on any 1er coupe, inc the 135i M Sport (as per press shots). However, BMW GB in its infinite wisdom have decided to only allow that style to be spec'd on non-M models (i.e 123d SE etc.). The M Sports (inc all 135is) for the UK can only have the double spoke M wheels (for an 18" wheel) from the factory. Quite annoying really - why do BMW GB think they need to do this and limit the very flexible factory options list? Perhaps their marketing people are under the impression they are "adding value" by doing this. Its especially annoying as the press car wheel above is IMO actually better looking than the M sport double spoker.
PS Mind, having said that the way BMW GB made all UK E92 M3s have Sat Nav as standard was a good move. |

For UK markets...
The 120d and 123d M Sport have 17" 10 double spokes as standard (style 207M) The 135i M Sport has 18" 5 double spokes as standard (style 261M) The picture that NFS has shown is style 264 - 18" (optional on ES and SE models)

Flicking through the estimated 3 year retained values in whatcar magazine, it seems that the higher your MPG, the higher the retained value after 3 years! I think the 123d could hold a slightly higher value after 3 years than the 135i.

I agree - but there are no other wheel options on the 135i according to the brochure.

I've only seen one 120d M-sport Sedona Red with the 261M wheels, and I think it looked great. But I like the interior much better in the 3 series.
Espesially those 261M wheels look very nice. Those would by great for a winter setup on the e90 (dont know if they fit though)
