Rear fog lights in US-spec 2-series?
Included?
There but need a new headlight switch (or modified) with the button for them like an e9x? Not there at all for the US? Very useful feature here on the foggy/rainy/snowy coast of Maine.

Might need to source parts from Germany. I haven't heard of anyone doing this yet. There was one instance while driving through Prague that I really could have used this. We had about a five minute drive through some of the densest fog I'd ever seen. I could see lights all of fifteen feet ahead of me. I think I just turned on the hazard lights.

It's probably required on every car sold in the EU.
On the e9x cars, all the hardware is there except the switch to turn them on and off. Some cars even actually have the switch, just the button is disabled and unmarked. While I was doing Euro Delivery on my e91, I bought a headlight switch at the BMW dealer in Amsterdam. So mine has had them since it was two weeks old. The rear fogs are the same lights used as the extra brake lights when you are braking hard - I can't recall the name of that feature, which I think the 2-series also has. So the switch just tells the computer to light them up all the time. Also very useful for discouraging tailgaters...

It does. Dynamic Brake Force Display. Would have been cool to grab this during my ED, but I have a feeling this car is still too new for parts like these to be readily available without ordering ahead.

Units coming to Mexico are Euro spec (as my 220 is), and we have rear fog lamps (useless in my city) as standard equipment, but we don´t have the trunk release button . Look at the picture.

One time about 10 years ago while I was home from college on the night before Thanksgiving, I was drove my A4 over to a friend's house, I got pulled over by this idiot cop in my town. The conditions had to have been the most foggy I've ever seen it around here while I was driving, so it was a no brainer to have my rear fog on. The stupid cop thought I had a tail light out, since the rear fog is just an additional bright bulb that is located on one side. I kept trying to explain to him that it was a fog light and was functioning correctly, and that it was supposed to be that way, so it can't be confused for a brake light. I even showed him that there were separate buttons for the front and the rear fogs that turned them on and off, but he wasn't having any of it. I guess being the night that it was he thought I had to have been drunk and this was an easy excuse to get me since there was absolutely nothing about my driving that he could pull me over. Eventually after wasting about 20 minutes of my time and coming to the conclusion that I'd had had nothing to drink and couldn't get me on anything else, he "let me off" with a warning to "get that fixed or if he saw it again he wouldn't be so nice and would ticket me for it".
My father ran into the police chief the week after and told him the story, and he agreed that the cop was an idiot and should have known what it was. I guess that's what you get for living in a town with no crime other than high school kids partying on the weekends. They have nothing better to do than to harass people driving around to generate some extra income for the town. |

Follow this guide on F30 DIY it worked on my F22. You will need to code it after doing the mod to enable it.

Most rear fog lights don't meet US regulations. So that's why you don't see them in the US.

When I had my 135i, I just had to purchase the headlight switch with the rear fogs. All i had to do was switch out the unit and boom it worked without any coding, I wonder if it's the same with the 2 series.

Based on observation of the sundry cars that DO come with rear fogs in the US, there seems to be very little regulation at all. My understanding is that they are simply allowed but not required. Nearly every European car sold in the US other than BMW has this feature. MB, Audi, Land Rover have them pretty much across their model ranges.

Turner use to source new buttons for the E9x models on their site back in the day for this mod. I wonder if another US vendor can sell the EU button? I did this in my E92 and was great for tailgaters as they thought I was doing a panic top
