random weather display/tire pressure
today i ran into too things that i find very odd with my car and i jsut want to make sure everything is fine because i have only owned this f30 335 for about 3 months.
When i first got the car i changed out the front 2 tires with brand new run flats and all my tires were basically new after that. about 2-3k miles later i already have a tire pressure warning? on all four tires too i believe. isnt this a bit early?? also, a weird pop up showed up on my heads up display randomly telling me that it was 37 degrees outside? or the engine was that temperature? which does not really make sense to me.. the temperature was around the 50s so i really do no know where they got this from. is it warning me about slipper roads or something? |

Nope, it think it's 37 degrees outside (not engine temp.) Sounds like the sensor could be at fault, mine is very close to the outside temp. Yes, it is to let you know it could be slippery and to drive careful.
If it gets cold, your TPMS could signal a false positive. I get it every morning, despite my tires being properly inflated. Seriously, every morning I get in my car, it's just gong after gong, and messages on the HUD /first world problem. I also have reserve fuel (<30 miles) lol, so you can imagine :P

Every car I've owned in the last 10 years would warn you its 37 degrees outside and to watch for icing conditions. Cars included Pontiac g6, Nissan altima, Ford Explorer, Infiniti g37, BMW 335i.

Air pressure changes with temperature.
If it is cold out, and you have not adjusted your tire pressure since the warmer months, then you should whip out your pressure gauge and check the pressure. Get into the habit of checking your pressure and adjusting it every 3 months regardless. Proper tire inflation takes all of 3 minutes at a gas station and will help ensure even wear on the tires. Also, you can code the F30 to display the exact tire pressure and temperature in each tire, which is extremely handy and I don't know why they don't make it standard when almost every other car I've had with TMPS will show you this info.

thank you everyone for clearing this up for me! ive driven a 2006/2014 rx330/50 and i dont remeber ever seeing a warning about low temperatures. If i get another warning about low temps and its not close to the actual temperature should i take it to the dealership?

I got a warning this morning for a low tire pressure (related to weather change), but I have owned BMW's before, so it was no surprise. The weird thing was that according to the vehicle TPMS sensor, the tire with the low pressure had 31 PSI. That's barely low!

A few days after picking up my 2013 328i in mid-September it was an unusually colder day and after 3-4 miles from home the low pressure warning had come on as I was driving to work in the morning. After calling my salesman he informed me that can expected due to the colder weather affecting tire pressure.
It went off again this morning as the outside temp was just around 32 degrees. I would rather not have this warning going off every morning if it just from the colder temps. Does anyone have any suggestions for preventing this? Should I pump some more air into the tires? Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of the sensor? |

It's not the temperature sensor that seems to be acting up, it's the tire pressure, it is going off with the lower temps.

Just to be clear there is no sensor error here based on the OP description. the 37 degree warning is in fact a low temp warning so that you can prepare for possible icy conditions on the road.
the low tire warning is due to a contraction of the gas (air) in your tires. this is normal and can be remedied by adding a few PSI of tire pressure to bring it back into tolerance

He's got two issues mentioned (tire sensor and ambient temperature). OP claimed that he had the 37 degree alert on his HUD when it was only 50 degrees outside. This is the issue I'm addressing.

The 37 degree warning coupled with the four tire TPMS warning leads me to believe it was colder than OP thought. Could of been in the early morning and warmed up later. |

The same thing happened to all four of my tires as well with the low tire pressure warning light, it came on Saturday morning, coincidentally, as I was on my way to get my new winter tires put on. That's normal though, when it first starts getting cold, the air in your tire contracts thus lowering your tire pressure. This has happened in every car I've ever owned. It's like that your BMW is the first car you've owned to actually warn you that your tire pressure is low. |

I did not base the temperature off of how i thought it felt. It was pretty late at night(so it was probably only getting colder and colder) and im starting to think when i checked the weather it was actually 42 degrees instead of 52. Sorry for all the confusion! Ever since that night i oddly have not gotten another low temperature warning. I dont think its hit under 40 degrees but it has definitely been in the low 40's. So im assuming my temperature sensor is pretty on point :-)
