What would keep you from getting an M2?

Other than price, what (if anything) would keep you from purchasing an M2 once the specs are known for certain?

For me, no MT option would be a non-starter. An "uncrackable" ECU would also be a deal killer, although that is unlikely (though not unimaginable given BMW's recent efforts). No LSD (doubtful) would certainly get me thinking, as would a curb weight above 3400lbs.

Audi bringing the RS3 with a manual to the US. Based on how I feel about the 2 series, the M2 sounds like the perfect car. It would take similar performance/ fun with 4 doors to make me give up the coupe.

No third pedal.
Weight > 3700 lbs.
Power < 340 hp.
FWD.
Price tag > $57k.
If it had a Toyota badge on it.

I think I'm safe.

Have an M235i so if it's not much better than this no change. Also have 6MT and want to go DCT next time. My bailout option is not. Too bad though, M4 would be my option.

Performance results better than:

.95 g
115 mph trap
105 ft 60-0

Should be easy for BMW engineers to attain this.

Less ground- clearance then my 235 would be the eliminator, however, it probably should have at least a 15mm drop- so the car is most likely out for me.

If the new Golf R at 40K offers a better daily driving experience than a 60K M2......and comes with a spare tire!

1M ownership.

My other half kindly made me understand not favoring the idea of two roosters living in the same hen house: either a status quo (no M2) or a 1M trade-in (M2).

No such dilemma with virtually most other cars: trade-in in the blink of an eye. But that's the sole problem of a 1M in pristine condition: the package is simply too good to part ways with.

I doubt that will ever happen here. Can't have a VW embarrass Porsche.

But if it does.......

If it had a Toyota badge on it.

I think I'm safe.

So if it weighs 3000 lbs, has 400 hp, is RWD, and costs $40k, but has a Toyota badge you would not get it?

Primary: Not sure if I can wait until Spring 2016.

1. Base Price: > than $53K (or dealer mark-up).
2. Exterior too boy racer
3. No CF roof (?)
4. M235 too compelling
5. Golf R, GT 350, or ATS-V too compelling

Not much really. The only thing is that I'm planning to keep my E92 while adding the M2, so base price will be a factor for me.

Quite a bit of a stretch, but I'm also considering going from 3 cars down to 2. The rumor about an X3M (potentially with an S55) is a little enticing. So I give up and will just play it by ear.

At this point, I'll do a few mods to the E36 M3 to pass the time haha.

auto rev-matching with the manual transmission just might lead to me getting a Cayman instead

No one specific thing, but if the car feels like it's being overly held back to protect the M3, without having its own focused character, then I'd pass.

3500 lbs weight might make me think m3 instead at that point.
