18's & M Sport Brakes

Its probably been asked before, but I've been asking round a few places re getting some 18's with Winter tyres. Now I know the BMW ones fit over, but looking for non BMW. Most online tools say that 18x8 all round (going square not staggered) ET35 will fit my car, but one company has said they won't fit due to the brakes and I need 19s.

OEM 400M are 18x8 and ET34 so what ET is in the range of fitting with the larger brakes?

Cheers

I thought 400m and 18" would fit fine. That's what I have bought anyway

There may be something in this. I was waxing up my winter 18" 441M's yesterday and noticed that the internal profile of the wheel seemed unusual.

They have a thick band near the spokes and then step to a larger internal diameter for the inward portion of the wheel.

I haven't had these wheels on my car yet. Not quite the right temperatures yet. Though, I'm confident they will fit as 441M's can be specified along with the Blue Brakes on a 330d on the configurator...

My 400M wheels went on over my blue brakes last week when the car was at the dealer. There isn't a lot of spare space around the front discs, but they do fit fine, so I am sure the 441M will fit too.

All four of mine are 7.5J, ie the front type, by the way

I've a 335d coming with 441M and blue brakes. I couldn't spec other wheels in 18" so I suspected something similar to the larger internal diameter.

Whilst I expect others might fit, it may be heat dissipation rather than physical fouling?

I've ordered my 18" alloy wheels, tyres and pressure sensors from Wheelbase. Their descriptions are pretty clear - fitment is guaranteed, with a 14 day return if there's a problem.
Out of pure sods law probability, and as most advice on here is spot on, I've sent them a note to confirm that 18" wheels will fit 330's that have M Sport brakes.
I'll update if there's any exceptions to that generalisation ok.

I've been speaking to them and they confirmed with the Manu I was looking at that they should fit so looks like the other company were trying it on for more money selling 19s

When I got mine from my local BMW dealer last year, they were able sell me the style 415 wheels (the 'turbine-style' ones as per the pic). They certainly fit fine over the blue brakes (they do look close to the front calipers!), and the dealer's parts system showed them as compatible with a 335d at the time. Not really taxed the brakes during winter, so not sure about heat dissipation!

18" 441M's over blue brakes.

From the water sat inside you can see the ridge which is outboard of the brake callipers.

Thanks for this guys useful stuff

But what I'm really after is details for non BMW wheels, ET's that can be used. Some people are suggesting ET30 but with the standard being ET34 I would think you'd need ET34 or slightly higher........?

i have to say the arch gap on @simarddominic ’s car (especially on the front) looks big - I don’t know why, whether it is because they are 18” or not - what is the measurement from the bottom of the wheel arch to the top of the tyre?

They do look good - that's the sort of style I'm looking at. Those are hard to track down over here!

As for the arch gap - it is an xDrive....

Thanks !

Yes, it's an Xdrive but the angles of the pictures increase the arch gap.

I notice you have the Nokian tyres - what do you think to them? Are they any good in just the wet/cold? I notice you are from Quebec so your winters are probably much worse than here in the UK - we only get a small amount of snow usually its just cold, wet with leaves everywhere

I was considering those for an alternative to the standard RFT Continental. Cheers
