If only one modification to your car?

It your own mind and after reading posts about BMW's engine performance kit and piggy back enhancers what is the one thing that is worth spending money on to enhance your car?

After reading and having owned my car for a few months the one thing that I'd like to do is fit stiffer springs, performance is fine and even with the available performance options non make much sense as the 330d/335d's is fairly wonderful as is. Someone here put their 330d on a dyno and found the torque and HP were a lot higher than literature had you believe.

So are new springs the best modification to make? Are they night and day?
Is then the BMW 3 series the perfect car? Or are any other mods really needed?

Probably not really what you had in mind... So maybe slightly off topic. But this looks very nice! If that ever comes as a option to build on my 330 I don't think I would hesitate!

If only 1 then it's the springs, but it's ever so closely followed by the tyres.

From the numerous threads on upgrades, I would say the major one would be the ACS springs.

As for the engine power upgrades, only those driving with stick left shifted should be doing these, anyone usually driving in full auto and comfort are not using all the capabilities of the car so probably not worth them upgrading.

So my choice would be ACS springs, followed by exhaust upgrade.

Firstly Nick, you need to have done the mod to your own car in order to qualify a comment on this thread.

Secondly, AFAIK, Ohlins don't make a kit for the F3x.

Thirdly, if they did....I'd be all over it as my rating for suspension systems is as follows:
  1. Ohlins
  2. Bilstein
  3. KW

Lastly, out of the three above, only the Bilstein has a 'practical' ride height option kit for F3x.

Didn't you make a thread saying the Michelin PSS makes a bigger difference than the springs?!

It's made a huge difference but whether that difference is as important is not the same thing.

So given only one modification then I'd choose the springs.

But my wife never even noticed the spring change, yet thought the new tyres were great.

Well the springs are night and day - if the tyres are anywhere near as big an improvement I'm looking forward to early next year when I'm planning on changing them too

There you go again Gordon, knockin' down the tall poppies .......

I had my motorcycle head on, where the answer to any suspension question is "Ohlins".....

Er, honestly... nothing really.

Oh sorry, winter wheels & tyres. But for practical reasons rather than "enhancement" if you see what I mean.

I would like ACS springs and a Milltek exhaust (twin) when they make one. Would be interesting to know what improvement the ACS springs would make to the lighter four pots.

ACS springs improve xdrive's a lot as they are fitted with SE springs. As to whether you'd notice a lot of difference from real M Sport springs (assuming yours is an sdrive M Sport) to ACS, I dont know. Its not going to be such a difference as us xdrive owners have experienced (and raved on about).

Dont forget that these ACS springs are replacement springs and not really performance springs as such. You'd need the RS kit if you want your car to handle like its on rails, or alternatively fit something like Nisfan has fitted. ie both springs and shocks.

Really thanks for the explanation, I now understand why you chaps rave about the ACS spring change. I think I will just do the Milltek when its manufactured

Thanks
