guys I need some help...KALTIRE EMPLOYEE IS AN IDIOT

ok so my mother owns a used 2008 bmw 3 series that she just bought. Unfortunately she has little knowledge about cars. Thing is she lives in Canada and of course we get alot of snow. Being prepared she went into kaltire around august before winter and specifically asked for runflat ALL SEASON tires for her car. The guy at kaltire said no problem and sold her a set with winter rims. Problem is I went down to visit her and she told me how her car is slipping everywhere. When I drove it, it wouldn't even make it up a snow covered hill without the traction control going crazy. I decided to see what tires the guy sold her and they were the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Run Flats. I called the guy at Kaltire and he started arguing that these are allseason even though there is no M+S logo on the tire and bridgestone and 1010tire market it as a summer performance tire. This idiot Kaltire employee wont budge, isnt this false information. I don't understand how we are in the wrong, if you ask for an all season tire and they fit summers isnt there some form of action you can take. Spent 3000 for the package and is driving me crazy that these guys call themselves tire proffesionals

That is totally unacceptable, but why not request dedicated snows in the first place?

Talk to a supervisor. Ask them to send you the tire information page.

I'd argue that your mother wanted snow tires and not all seasons.

Why not talk to the manager or even their corporate HQ?

Pull up the specs on the bridgestone tires to show them that its not made for snow even though it was what was requested....

http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tire/potenza-re050a

It even clearly says "SUMMER" lol.

Keep escalating it. Even threaten to sue them because there's a potential she can get into an accident and you really don't want that to happen.
Or bring up the argument "if her car slides and my mom gets injured, will your company pay for her car and medical bills?"

thanks guys im going to call them tomorrow and escalate it. The reason she asked for all season runflats is mainly because its very low maintenance. That said as soon as I get this thing sorted with Kaltire ill be purchasing dedicated winters elsewhere. It just drives me nuts that this guy keeps saying its an all season tire. Hes also saying that you should have returned it immediately but i don't get how someone who has no idea about tires is supposed to know that there summers until they hit snow. We just got our first snowstorm this week. my mother ran on the assumption that they were all season

Clicking that link, literally the word SUMMER is front dead center. Send them that website OP.

I hope it all works out for you and I'm glad you decided to go with dedicated winters. No one up here should be driving around with all seasons.

Maybe what you should do is give your mother a link to tire rack and have her educate herself on tires. I'm sorry, but unless your mother just moved to Canada last summer, if find it difficult that she has so little knowledge about winter tires.

Not only is that false, that's incredibly dangerous. Driving on RE050As in the winter is a disaster waiting to happen. They'll get as hard as plastic below 30 degrees, and driving on the snow is like driving a sled. I would suggest recording him saying this.

I can't believe they pulled that off. How many drivers have they done that to? They're literally creating unsafe road conditions.

This. Once you do a chargeback, they'll magically be budging on their opinion. Chargebacks are generally biased towards the consumer winning.

What an idiotic comment...just because she lives in Canada she's supposed to know the ins and outs of winter tires? Grab a brain.

The point is that she asked for all seasons and got summers. The fault is entirely on the Kal-Tire guy.

OP, I hope you get this resolved.

Yea, reality is most non-enthusiast car owners probably never look at their tires when they get them put on.

I think it is quite an appropriate comment. How can someone who is a mother, who has a mature adult as a Son (i.e. she's not a new 16-year old driver), who apparently native to a place that has a lot of snow, not know about snow tires, or at least take someone with her who does? Yeah, you can rely on people to do something for you, but in the end it is your untimate responsibility to make sure you have the correct tire on your car.

Life is tough sometimes. Take responsibility...

There is a little bit more to spec'ing out tires for a car than pulling up to a gas pump and using the one that has '93' on it....
