Diesel lover liking the 328i
Had a loan 328i M-Sport for 5 days now and have to say i am rather liking it. It's quiet, it's quick and handles and rides very well. It's a Sales Managers car with +pack, Pro Nav and xenons but without visibility pack (strange). Standard M-Sport suspension and 19's ride well but road noise from the Bridgestone tyres is terrible!
One thing i don't like is the MPG, especially on short trips - about 14 MPG On Motorway trips its getting close to 40 so more acceptable. To be honest it exceeds my expectations albeit I still think the engine sound is false!!! Hope my 330d feels as good when it arrives and it will be interesting to see how adaptive suspension compares. |

I was excited about the idea of the 328i when it came out and had a demo car for 2 days, and have to say it underwhelmed. I was coming from an E90 330d so it felt a bit gutless to me. Not slow, but just didn't have that thrust you get used to with the 6 pot diesels.
And whilst it is smooth I just felt it was a characterless/soul-less kind of engine. We had the Z4 at the time too, so I think I just much prefer a straight six engine, in feel and character, irrespective of whether it's a diesel or a petrol.

That's strange. I had a remapped E90 330d prior to the Audi and this doesn't feel gutless in the slightest. In fact i would say it feels just as fast.
Maybe it's just a good one! Sorry Nick, not converted yet when driving 20k a year! |

I was thinking about 428 too but aparently 335d was cheaper to buy on PCP, so that was no brainer for me. I always wanted to try 6pot diesel with huge torque so now I got one and I'm happy even if average mpg is not great, far from BMW quotes. The last one, mixed driving with bad traffic jams came about 33mpg

I agree Terry about the petrol six.
If we are all really honest with ourselves, that's what we'd prefer to drive. I came from an LCI e90 330d and was pleased to see the back of it. The 328i has the legs and the handling is in a different league. |

Very good question Mr dopper99.
One that I find difficult to answer now. Mine was one of the first MSport specs in the UK and at the time I liked the idea of the downsized engine, less weight over the front wheels and so on. If I stay with BMW, next time I'd have to look very closely at the 330i and 340i and thinking at this time would be to the latter. |

When I saw his post title I immediately thought he was your secret love child and your subtle mention of 'missionary bearing fruit' just confirmed it !!

Test drove a 328i, sounded like a diesel and was boring. Drove a 330D, sounded like a diesel but was a LOT more fun and quicker. Can't see the point of the 328i tbh.

Yes a lot of cars these days you occaision ally have to ask if it's petrol or diesel. Due to smooth diesels not sounding like Tractors / clapped out taxis. |
