I get the rattle. Try folding down your seats and driving. After I folded them down, I noticed the rattle went away... so for me, it's definitely the rear seats.

Also, the little tray inbetween the rear seats rumble during low RPMs.

What exhaust do you have?

i have the full supersprint setup. anyhow i did fold the seats down and brought out the entire seat belt and put back. i haven't had the rattling for awhile now and then all of a sudden today i have it again at low rpms.

i don't think its effect the people with exhaust but also the golf tee people. nobody knows the exact source of the rattle or a definate answer on solution?

its the tray in the middle. the flap that slides... just stick a load of bubble wrap in there to keep it pumped up so that the flap cant move - vibrate. i guess that shud work. i havent got round to doing it myself.

I noticed the same rattle (bone stock) and moved the slider in the rear back and forth a few times. It seems to have subsided for now.

It seems to me that this should be a warranty issue. Has anyone approached a dealer about it?

Yes. It's the DB. Knowing that you set off alarms with the SS makes me very unlikely to buy it.

its not a bad thing. on cold start ups the car is loud for only 2 seconds and goes down. its a 02 toyota i use as a get around car for work. my dad's acura rdx makes the car alarm go off on the toyota as well if you press the lock button twice making the confirmation noise lol.

Did you ever figure out why the SS didn't make any power?

its a perfect fit. the cover will not close with the ball in there. just push the ball a bit down when covering and voila done. its not a tight fit but perfectly snug fit.

But it's not just the small rear compartment in between the rear seats that rattles. I have rattling under the armrest compartment... or possibly where the rear vents are. All this rattling sucks...

I have an obsession with rattles bordering on OCD (!) and have been investigating and fixing (with a dealer) the problems with rear seat rattles in the E92. After five months or so, we've sorted it out so that it is COMPLETELY silent. Our findings have gone back to BMW UK and are now referenced by other UK dealers where there are problems with other cars.

The problem when adding an exhaust is that the extra noise at around 2000rpm (actually from 1750-2250rpm generally) activates the resonant frequency within the rear of the car and hence leads to boom and rattles. That, coupled with the seemingly low initial tolerance of the rear seat mechanism off the factory line, leads to the annoying rattles and squeaks.

I've posted the general issues on the UK forum - link below. Get your dealer to look at these points and I'm sure you'll be able to reduce the rattles quite significantly.
