Help please - vinyl wrap interior trim

Ok guys, I have everything wrapped except the center console. I'm having trouble removing the gear shifter. From what I've read online all you need to do is push the button and pull straight up. I've tried this and it hasn't budged.

Anyone have experience with this?

Put it in neutral. I don't think you need to push the button while pulling it up. Wear your mouthguard!
