M2 to be the next e36M?

Outside of reviews, I am not familiar with the e36M. But it is one of the more maligned M cars due to the lack of a true GmbH engine.

With the M2 running an upgraded N55 twin-scroll turbo versus the S55 twin turbo, will the M2 be a special vehicle over the long-term?

The M235 could potentially be upgraded to match the M2 with some mods:
*Exhaust: $2k
*LSD: $3k
*Tune: $2.5k
*Suspension: $2.5k
*Interior: $1k (excluding seats)
*Exterior: $4k
*Engine bay: $500

Either way, it sounds like it will be a great car.

In terms of size yes. The 2 series is very close to the old e46.

Can the M235i be upgraded to M2 spec? Yes. For USD$15k as above, it makes it the same price as a M2 but without the resale value.

Agreed. It would not be as cost effective for someone to upgrade a 235 and take a hit on resale. But it would be possible to come very close to an M2.

The e30, 46, and 92 were not as assessable to replicate. Now if the M2 came with a lot of CF or other weight loss measures, maybe a different story.
