Drove into a puddle...

Ive been having the shittiest luck in regards to my car for the past few days.. On Friday some guy backed into my car while at a gas station and now this.. Last night I was picking up a friend from the airport, upon picking her up I had to go through this one lane one way tunnel/ramp which on the bottom consisted of a flood like puddle. I believe the puddle was as deep as where my foglights are since there is now moisture inside them. Without any choice I had to go through it. after going through the puddle I noticed an astronomical amount of steam coming out from my engine as well as exhaust when parking. I wasn't too worried since cars produce steam sometimes when they are running in a carwash but what worried me the most was when my car started idling roughly when parked.

The tachometer would fluctuate up and down multiple times as well as the car vibrating. I started and turned off the car a few times to hope that the issue would be go away but no bueno.. After picking up my friend and driving for 20 min and restarting the car again I noticed my car started fine once again but I am not 100% reassured. I went to my mechanic today and he scanned the car but there were no faults. Should I be worried that my car may have serious issues?

Im sorry for the long rambling.

You're most likely fine. Water probably just got into the exhaust system causing issues with too much back pressure. It likely cleared out as you drove the car and that is why the car is fine now.

Your fine. I went into a puddle once in a vetted. Hit debris under water, destroyed 2 tires and the distributer. That sucked.

Car sputtering could have also been caused by water getting on some car wiring. I wouldn't worry about it.

If water gets in the manifold you can get a nasty case of water seize...IF it gets past the manifold.

Thanks! Hopefully that's the culprit.

I hope it was worth it

If you started the car and drove it again without any irregular moments then you're fine.

I mean, I've had fun driving through huge water pools and splashing water all over the place. These cars are built to withstand weather conditions.

I don't see how this would even happen. It would have to get sucked up by the filters which it couldn't have from what the OP said.

Got into a bunch of places when I got stuck in a flood in Newark a few years back with a 128 loaner...of course, that was a much deeper puddle...just about up to the doors. Oh, and I tried to start it up several times in that flood and eventually got it kicked over and out of it (stupidly enough), and the car gurgled like a motorboat for several minutes.

I was fortunate that 650 and change was all it cost me.

You're right, it seems not to be the case with OP.

If you want to laugh I went through a deep puddle with the top down. The water soaked me and my interior :-)
