Talking Finally ordered our 1 series :) ...

Hi guys

I know this is the F30 section but as I was asking advice on here about buying a 1 series for my wife recently, I thought I would keep those interested in the loop.
Order was placed last weekend so here's our spec...

Alpine White 125d M Sport 5 door hatch
Black Leather
Brushed Ali trim with High Gloss black
Driver Comfort Pack
Interior Comfort Pack
Vis Pack
M Sport Plus Pack
Professional Media System
Sport Auto Box
Adaptive Suspension
Folding Mirrors
Electric Seats
Heated Seats
Speed Limit Display

They're hoping for an end of December delivery for target reasons but it could drag into January.
We didn't go for the 135 as it was just too 'full on' for my wife and the fuel bills would wear thin after a while anyway. She's coming from a 1.4 Golf so the difference will be very noticeable
My wife absolutely loves my media system so to be honest that's what swung the 1 series in the end. She also wanted HK so that had to be in there too. I specced the rest for her based on what my car has and what I think she would need. I will need to drive the car at times so I want it to be as close to mine as possible and have lots of toys.
The only thing I'm not too sure about is the Adapative Suspension. The car we drove didn't have it but from all the positive comments on here (and from me) I thought it was best to put it on. Any comments people??? I need to decide pretty damn quick if I'm going to change it.

Now maybe I can change mine to something else...

I can't wait for delivery and it's not even my car really

Don't forget the LCI is launched in March, complete with new B series engines.

Trust you got a suitably huge discount!

Yeah I know, thanks. We're not interested in the facelift and to be honest having the car sooner is better for us anyway.

Congratulations with a caveat.
It is a good car but unfortunately it is a particularly ugly lizard that even its own mother will deny knowing it.

I had a f20 before my f30. I loved it. Very comfortable but not a car that wanted to be driven hard but I had a SE. I'm sure the m sport is much better.

I must admit that, personally, I like the F20 in M Sport guise. I am one of the few that agrees with your lady wife and thus goes against the majority. I like lizards.

My wife wanted EBII like mine but we both thought it would be a bit weird. Two cars in colours like white / black / silver etc would be fine but two EBII's doesn't sit right with me :/

The looks are nothing compared to how they ride, the Sport models at least are horrendous! Both soft and squidgy AND bumpy & uncomfortable! It's quite an achievement by BMW!

Although maybe the M Sport is different?

Hmm, don't agree with that - we have a sport and while is softer than my ACS/Adaptive, it is nowhere near as floaty as the 335 pre ACS was.

You can also throw it around corners like there is no tomorrow - it was actually part of the reason I was convinced to upgrade my springs.

MSport is good also - we weren't convinced we could live with permanent hard suspension again (we both had MSports before E92/E87).

Why did you get Sport over MSport Mark?

I think AW is the best colour for the F20/21, I don't think they look as ugly as people make out in m-sport, I added extended storage as it was only £110 as I wanted the part that covers the cup holders, and my little M135i with adaptive handles a lot better than the 435i

Well, honestly the 64 plate 116d Sport I had was terrible!
I don't mind uncomfortable suspension that handles well, like my E90 had, but the 116 was the worst of both worlds, I hated it!!

Interesting as my wife preferred the way the F20 looked when compared to an A3. We also changed her 1.4 Golf (MK6) to a F20 (114i Sport) but we both hate it. It does look better in white than most people make it out. But compared to the golf its leagues behind in terms of space and comfort. It is more refined i.e. less wind and road noise than the MK7 and doesn't look as boring either. In every other respect we both don't like it, personal preference i guess. The interior is rather basic too but I think that of the F30 so I guess that is also personal opinion.

Enjoy the car- I know our son does whenever he is (rarely) back from uni!

Before anyone says I am biased- I have a F30 (320d M-Sport), F10 and F20 so I think I know..

Sounds like you are happy with your choice which Is good. I wouldn't have bought one now with the facelift around the corner and if a car ever needed a facelift this is it!!

However I guess there is no guarantee the new model will be a step forward.

I cannot say whether adaptive is a good idea as I've not driven one with. But had a 120d (prob with passive SE suspension) as a hire car last year. It felt roly poly. Nice in most other ways.

Wife's choice in the end - she like the look and wheels, hates leather and couldn't justify and extra cost.

For local driving only, the stiffer suspension was not top of her list either.

That is interesting. Ours is a late '12 but I can't imagine much changed. However, ours is a petrol so I wonder if it struggles with weight or something.

I was getting pi**ed off with my floaty 335, I was even more pi**ed when comparing to a car half the price.
