M Performance Parts and Insurance
Just trying to finalise my insurance...
Having problems with listing the parts. Would you add the value of these parts to the value of the car and then declare the parts? Admiral seem to want to charge more for covering these parts on top of the premium which would mean adding them to the value pointless. I don't know if should be looked at differently as they are OEM parts just not factory fit. I don't really think of them as modifications. Any advise appreciated. I know I could ring them but I'd rather not go through that process just yet. Ta |

I'm with them - better to call and tell them they're factory fit / manufacturer options, rather than aftermarket. That should avoid them adversely loading your premium.

I had mine fitted from new ie before the collection - I told them this and they classed it as part of original car so no uplift.
I double checked this to make sure and explained, but I suspect they didn't understand |

Admiral are terrible with all sorts of things I'm afraid!
For example they're the only insurance company that penalise you if you've done the driver speed awareness course! And afaik the only company that penalises you if you had a non fault accident! Yes even if the other party admitted full liability and his insurance paid for the whole repair!! They are very cheap if you've done none of those things and have a clean license though. |

I didn't go with them as their incidental costs were much higher. Things like having a windscreen repair excess, no courtesy car insurance, being evasive about their local repair agent and a general feeling they would be difficult...

I am with Admiral, initially I was dealing with UK office (Wales?) and then when I had to call back to finalise stuff, I was put through to the Canadian office.
The UK office had me listing every bloody thing, even bits to do with Pro media. However the Canadian office where, you bought the car with this stuff fitted, so that's what's insured, no need to say you had brakes, alloys etc. Sensible Canadians Admittedly Admiral would not give me house insurance as I live near a canal.... |

Just signed with Admiral, there were about £400 cheaper than anyone else when adding the M Performance parts. Then the multicar took another £60 off, which made it £300.
£75 for a replacement windscreen is a bit steep but then I save that 4 times over by using them. |

Am with Admiral & not entirely chuffed so to speak. CS are a nightmare to deal with & they classify Winter tyres as a "Modification"

I'm never entirely sure why they want to know these things but always assumed it was mainly to fleece you for more cash, but under the pretence that it was because somehow having a little strip of plastic stuck to your boot suddenly makes you a higher risk....
I am pretty sure that going to the effort to list all these things will do absolutely nothing to the amount they choose to value your car for a payout should it be stolen or whatever. I was totally fed up with these companies suckin you in with cheap looking premiums only to shaft you with silly extra excesses and admin fees just for the privilege of keeping them informed as to whether you had winter tyres on or not. I went with a broker this time and they were so much easier to deal with when you have any sort of modifications done to your car.

Even with all the changes declared the insurance was still cheaper than my standard E90 330d by £150. However adding the M Parts put the price up by something like £75 even though I'd already added them to the value of the car. Where do you stop? Do you have to add every option? I didn't declare my heated seats or xenon headlights, is that wrong? |

Used to be with Admiral, they're a pain when it comes to mods, especially because they make you pay for them to cover them, but won't actually pay out for them if there's a claim. So you give them a list of £10Ks of optional extras on the car, then crash it, they won't cover the extra £10K
