Headlight Condensation

Is this normal after a drive in this wet/damp weather? (In both fronts but not the rear lenses). Its never there until the cars had a runout and with the lights on of course.

The picture above is very typical of condensation levels in wet weather. See it on my car, the previous 330d and many other BMW models. BMW comment on it in the user manuals, stating it does not need replacement light assemblies.

Normally just dries off in hours. Light units are not sealed, so subject to changes in humidity.

Was a thread on this subject just a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks Pete. I had this when I picked up the car on Friday, just assumed it was due to the fact the car had just come out of a warm showroom straight into the pouring rain outside. It disappeared a few hours later.

Thanks buddy, I was always under the impression that xenon units were sealed, but interesting to know that this is not the case.

have exactly the same thing in my 2010 range rover. kicked up a fuss when I bought it approved used as I thought it was a fault - I wasn't convinced with the dealers explanation which I only accepted because it was in warranty. to be fair its been fine ever since. (actually about the only thing which has - just about every other part of the car has broken…)

I found in past key is to keep an eye on this. In case it gets worse or the steam stains the plastic / leaves residue.

On my E90 after two years from new it got so bad that the inside of the lenses in the end became stained / misty and started affecting light output. Bit like the inside of a windscreen looks if not been cleaned. In end managed to get BMW to agree to replacement. After that had no issues.

Just hope this not repeats on the F30.

I've had this a few times, almost exactly the same location as well, always disappears though. I suppose even if the light units were sealed you would still get this as there would be air inside (and therefore water molecules) and a change in temperature between the inside of the unit and outside would cause condensation.
