Coding Success!

Pride before a fall and all that, but I've just successfully done my first batch at coding and it went without a hitch - nerve-wracking though!

I've only added some features using FDL coding; I haven't added any modules yet.

Thanks to Kitster for help and you probably know the answer to these two questions:

1) When I've changed 6NH to 6NS in the vehicle FA and stored it I need to VO code the HU_NBT. To do that I just have to get to the top-level HU_NBT (not any CAFD files underneath) and just select "Code" at that level?

2) To enable video in motion the SPEEDLOCK_X_KMH_MAX and _MIN need to be werte coded to FF but I assume they also need to be set to active?

Complete double dutch to me at the moment - I hope to start coding soon if I can spend the time working out how to get started.

1. You need to select the top level folder called HU_NBT [XX], where XX is a number, and then press the code button. It will wipe any settings in your NBT e.g. Sound/Tone settings and saved shortcuts, just added them back in.

2. Correct, you will need to set it to aktiv.

@ gr4z It is one of those things that really is more intuitive when you have it in front of you, if you read the guides carefully, and especially the FSC Coding Video on YouTube which gives you a walk-through with some vital dos and dont's.

@ kitster - yes, as I thought. Thanks again mate.

My "free" token worked - it's a program that intercepts the normal start-up of Esys and generates a token.

Install Esys as normal and then install the attached file - you'll need to remove .pdf off the end because this forum won't allow .msi files to be attached.

This installation replaces the normal Esys shortcut and when you start asks to generate a token - give it any password you like and save the token somewhere.

Whenever Esys asks for the token password (e.g. when editing / writing) you just supply the same password.

Easy peasy.

OK Video-in-motion works but I'm not sure it's a good idea - I'll turn that back off I think.

Question about EBT: I've enabled that (changed to 6NS in FA) and it now shows in the build. I thought it was all good because lo-and-behold on my iPhone the option "Send Notifications" appeared under the connection (which wasn't there before) and this is what I needed to turn on to get emails and SMS to work on my F10.

All good, I thought, so I turned it on but still not getting messages on the iDrive.

What did I do wrong?

Well I tried it to see if I could but I can't really imagine driving with moving pictures in my eye-line, even if it's essentially for the passenger to watch.

I'll try it when I get mine as I have TV but I'm not sure of the repercussions if caught by the police?

Trouble I would think. Likewise for insurance if witnesses suggested you were watching. I do know of somebody prosecuted for watching a video on an iPhone which was on a windscreen mount.

Is it illegal to drive with it on? Or just not recommended.
There are cars of course (Range Rover I think?) with trick screens that play video to the passenger but the drivers sees the sat nav all from the same screen.

I like the video in motion option as it means you don't have to have the car in park. Useful recently when I was queuing to get on a Ferry and it moved very slowly every now and then. That is the only time I think I've used it in 2 years.

I would never drive on the road with it on.

Fair comment. I suppose queuing is a good usage.
