I have a genuine BMW DAB retrofit kit.
It's un used and brand-new in the box unwanted purchase.

How does this work please?

I'm not sure but there is a plug which I guess piggy backs into loom behind Nav or radio,plug that in the little box,plug in ariel and that's it.
The dab works off a remote but don't know how

It is the exact same unit as the 'AutoDAB' aftermarket kit, it's controled from a remote control, it streams the audio to the headunit via FM, and it uses a little aerial that sticks on the window.

I've seen it.... It isn't the best thing BMW have offered.

So your getting a digital signal and then transmitting via analog back to your head unit

Sounds a bit naff. No disrespect to the OP, just my view of the product.

The windscreen aerials are poor and you will lose reception a lot! I had one on my genuine (really genuine) DAB retrofit i did on my E90. I never lose reception on my F30's factory DAB. Although the brand new 1 series and Mini paceman i've had as courtesy cars recently lost reception all the time, so they obviously have crap aerials from the factory!!

Spoke to a BMW technician this afternoon. They can fit it But would be cheaper to buy a new one from them. He also said "They are not best"
