I elected to do a 1000 mile early oil change for my owned (not leased) 228i. I paid for that additional procedure.

I will do it. I put over 1300 miles on my car in Europe and it has now been sitting in that oil since October 15, being turned on and operated a handful of times, possibly never reaching full operating temperature. I think it'll be worth replacing the oil under those conditions even if the oil is really not that old and isn't the kind of oil used in the M cars which require it.

For everyone else, I doubt it's necessary at all. I didn't do it on my current car, which was a US delivery custom order. Number of problems I've had with this car in 3 years of ownership - 0.

I was turned down today haha. They said my car wasn't a true M. Weird how on all the cars I've owned I usually get an oil change after the break in but they said not until my 10k service.

I have almost 3,000 miles on my M235i and haven't done an oil change. It's my daily driver and I was planning on just going with the regular service interval.

I plan on doing mine when the car tells me. If it did not use synthetic oil I may have done it sooner, but really synthetic oil dose not break down like conventional oil...whats the point?

The point, on a new car, would be to remove any microscopic shavings that pollute the oil as the motor is breaking in. After that though, yes, I think I'd go with the standard service interval.

Don't know if it's right off the lot

You can use traction control from the beginning.

According to the manual I read for my last car, it starts to work after the 1200 mile mark. I tested it on my car shortly after crossing that threshold and it worked. I had not taken it in for service. The manual may have stated that you should wait to use it, or maybe it works and they say not to use it. I don't remember. Either way, it gets activated without a service.

On these cars there is nothing stopping you form doing it off the lot once you have passed the 10 km of driving or whatever to ensure the car is warmed up.

I activated it at 200 km (just activated the system, not the launch) just to see if it worked.

However you really should not launch your car until it is broken in. This is regardless of your break in mentality.

In all reality if you want to keep your car in good condition you should never use launch control...

Thats not really out of the ordinary. Your oil is fine.
You guys need to read some Blackstone ( I think) oil reports.

I'll take your word for it. Reading oil reports sounds a little too fun for me. I've known people to recommend changing the oil when it has been sitting a long time. How long should used synthetic oil sit before replacing?
