Blind Spot Warning
I find the blind spot detection in my M4 to kinda suck compared to other cars on the road and I'm curious to see if anyone knows how to make some adjustments via coding.
Whenever i am driving on the highway i look at other brand car mirrors to see how their systems work and have noticed that on Mercedes & Lexus the light is on anytime a car is in the blind spot. On my M4 & the other half's X4 the light is only on if the car just "sits" in the blind spot. If the car is passing you even at a very slow speed the light doesnt even come on at all plus it doesnt come on at low speeds. I think the system should alert me anytime a car is there regardless of speed and rate of passing. Does anyone know if some of these settings can be adjusted on F8x? I know on the F10 there are some things that can be done but i cant find them on the F8x. EDIT: here is the setting to turn it on at 17MPH vs. 30 MPH ICM 3000 C_ZSW_Aktivierunggeschwindigkeit_Funktion_low Set to 30km Blind spot monitoring on at 17mph Last edited by YMB-M3-J2; 12-05-2014 at 06:12 PM.. |

Just thought I'd revive this thread as I have noticed the same exact issue. Does anyone have any suggestions or coding improvements? The blind spot system is almost worthless to me with the way it currently functions from the factory.

I've been very impressed with the blind spot monitoring. It seems to pick cars up from a far distance back if they're traveling at a much higher rate of speed than me. I believe the sensors are pointed backwards (versus sideways from the rear corner). I've noticed it struggles when cars are directly next to me, but I'd rather have it this way.

I checked this on my morning commute. The sensors never failed once for any car in the blind spot (not parallel), whether the other car is moving at the same or a different speed. Also my experience with the steering wheel vibration confirms it is very reliable (even though I always visually confirm the clearance before changing lanes).
On a related note, I've coded the detection speed down from 50kmh to 20kmh. |

Agree that the system kind of sucks on the M3/4. I also find it difficult sometimes to even tell if the light is on, especially on a bright day. Seems like the other brands like Lexus/Mercedes which have the indicator in the mirror itself instead of as part of the housing are easier to read.

Mine work great. However, I have noticed that they seem more sensitive to cars coming up behind you, vs. when you pass a car (which makes sense). Also, think they switch off below a certain speed?
Cheers
